[edit] Birthdate

Star Wars #12: Doomworld! states that Chewie was 100 years old in 0 ABY: presumably this is overwritten by a newer source. — Silly Dan 21:39, 19 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Star Wars Encyclopedia says his birthdate is 200 BBY. Siri Ticallia 12:07, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

  • all i know is hes like 100 yrs older than YODA<**>Ewokmenace 14:48, 5 January 2008 (UTC)ewokmenace

According to "The Story of Star Wars" published in 1977, Chewbacca was 200 years old as of his meeting with Kenobi in the Mos Eisley Cantina. As of the script for Return of the Jedi, which we know to be set 4 years after A New Hope, Yoda dies at (or around) 900 years old. Both ages are confirmed in "A Guide to the Star Wars universe, 2nd edition" by Bill Slavicsek, the "Star Wars Encyclopedia" by Stephen J Sansweet, "The Essential Guide to Characters" by Andy Mangels, "The New Essential Guide to Characters" by Daniel Wallace and their respective Databank entries on starwars.com - which is among the most canonical of sources.

Seems to me there's enough authoritative sources to prove that Yoda was about 696 years older than Chewbacca as of ROTJ. And Chewbacca's birthdate was 200BBY. Medleystudios72 22:41, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Beef Curtains

Do we prefer this promo image from WOTC: [3] ? --SparqMan 18:40, 10 Oct 2005 (UTC)

  • I personally prefer the WOTC one. -- SFH 18:47, 10 Oct 2005 (UTC)
    • Well, I actually prefer the one I uploaded. It's more dramatic and it's HUGE. --Master Starkeiller 20:43, 10 Oct 2005 (UTC)
  • I've scanned and cropped an image from Chewbacca 4 that is pretty dramatic, and avoids the cartoonish style of the current image. Thoughts: Image:Chew45.jpg Unsigned comment by SparqMan (talk • contribs).
    • The current one is still bigger and better, I think. --Master Starkeiller 12:33, 30 Nov 2005 (UTC)
  • Bigger doesn't matter when it's thumbed in the article. --SparqMan 20:31, 5 Dec 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Expansion

While Chewie's appearances were often supporting roles, this article is woefully incomplete. --SparqMan 20:47, 22 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Does anyone know how to handle the new Chewbacca info from Dark Lord? He escaped the slavery on Kash.

I feel that there should be a section in Chewie's page set aside for his life and times with the Solo family. Tales of his exploits with Han, or times when he saves the lives of the Solo children, this sort of thing. Anyone agree? --KeiranHalcyon 20:37, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chewie's Name

It says his name come from a russian dog,

Is that true, a Japanese woman told me "Chewbacca" was Japanese for "Half Stupid". Double D 02:27, 12 Dec 2005 (UTC)

"Baka" IS the word for calling some one stupid. I suppose Chu means half. --Falmarin 20:03, 23 Dec 2005 (UTC)
  • Chewing tobacco ;) --Image:BFguy.gif--Inmobilus 22:44, 13 Jan 2006 (UTC)
  • Yeah, you know chewie had to be rockin the gonj. just look at him, for christs sake. Yoda1300 18:16, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Another reason Chewe might be half stupid is in TESB, Chewe put the tool box half way off the edge before it fell on Han. 68.78.134.221 12:46, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] His death

Why do fan types get all upset about this sort of thing, just engage in a little krypto revisionism, George Lucas has repeatedly broken the "rules" of the expnaded universe, why not do it yourself and just think of Chewbacca as still alive?

  • Or better yet, remind yourself Chewie is a fictional character - Kwenn 22:46, 13 Jan 2006 (UTC)
    • Blasphemy! -- Doo Doo 06:34, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
      • Those types of fans are the types who just cannot accept the fact of life that living things eventually die at one point. And Chewie's death further strengthens the point that it is a dangerous war they are involved in, not some simple little conflict where all the bad guys diie, and all the good guys walk away laughing. Adamwankenobi 06:38, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
        • That's called reality. ;) -- Riffsyphon1024 06:59, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
          • Good point, it's not really a drama (if you classify Star Wars as drama) if theres no threat to any major players. Doo Doo 10:40, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
            • Indeed. I was getting tired of the 'Han Luke and Leia fight the Empire and walk away laughing' plots. When Vector Prime came out nobody was invincible anymore and there were some new bad@ss villains.
              • Which brings up anothe point. Lucas would have had to know about this, right? So, has he made arrangements for the future? Though I think Chewie went out nobly, who else has this feeling that a Comic Book Death is imminent? Rod
                • Most likely. Lucasfilm Limited has to approve everything published. See Stackpole on Writing in Someone Else's Universe [4] -Finlayson

Not sure if Chewie's death date is unknown, but at least can we have same dates on Chewbacca's main page? Wikipedia [5] states he died in 25 BBY but here we end his life in 19 BBY, only to see the text under his pic saying he died in 25 BBY.

Chewbacca deserved better... OxfordScholar09 02:55, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Lol, to be honest I never really cared for Chewbacca. Now that I know he died I'm all like, "Noooooo." :'[

  • Don’t worry guys, it doesn’t matter what all those people say, I mean, it’s an expanded universe which gives you the opportunity to believe whatever you want to believe. For me, I just believe in the Star Wars Saga, the 6 movies. I don’t even care for the expanded universe. I just Believe in the star wars saga. The 6 movies. I Don’t care for the Expanded universe. I just Think of it as if it never happened. In my heart, Star Wars Ends with the fall of the empire on endor, I mean after all they’ve been through , I think it’s enough. Who wants to believe in the Yunng vong war or whatever, I mean that’s like saying the receive all this trouble after defeating the whole Galactic empire. Chewbacca lives on, Anakin skywalker is redeemed and the emperor is dead. You believe in whatever you want to believe. No one wants to believe in death!
    • Just deal with it people. Canonically, he's dead. If you want to believe he didn't, go ahead. Just don't go adding fanon to articles and removing stuff you don't want to believe. Anyway, you can always go back and read the hundreds of publications in which he is still alive.--Lord OblivionSith holocron 23:30, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
      • Agreed, like i said before, Belaive what you want. Thank you user Darth oblivion for helping me make this point to those chewbacca lovers out there.

I may be Yoda's friend but that doesn't mean that I can't like the coolest Wookiee of all time! I mean how could a bunch of low-tech coral brains send a moon to hurt my little fuzzy friend! -Derek Yoda's friend

  • Yes George Lucas does know. I remember reading an article in Insider about it. They wanted to prove that the heroes were no long invincible. For too long it had only been bad guys dying. The authors had wanted to kill Luke Skywalker, but Lucas said no. So they came up with the idea of killing Chewie instead.--Hobbie 16:37, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
  • i must say i never was a HUGE fan of Chewie but hes just one of those carachters you just here thay died and are like so what! then you read or see something amazing or funny or heroic that they did and well it's always hard for a star wars fan when a carachter moves on all we need to do is never forget him and move on knowing he would not have died in vainEwokmenace 14:55, 5 January 2008 (UTC)ewokmenace

[edit] Death threat

Removed the claim about a death threat until proven. SaintedLegion 17:47, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Itchy quote

I know there's a quote from the comic Chewbacca where Itchy says something along the lines of, "A mere moon couldn't kill my son!" Does anyone have access to that, because that would make an awesome quote for the section on his death or his legacy. Havac 01:40, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

  • "They told me he'd died in a quake... That a falling moon killed him... But, how can a quake kill a wookiee warrior?! How can a mere moon be a match for my son?!" from Chewbacca 1. the Ash lad 02:31, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Marriage

In the Han Solo Trilogy, By A.C.Crispin it states that Chewbacca married mallatobuck after the rise of the Empire. Where as the articles states it happened before the end of the clone wars. In the third book in the trilogy, Rebel Dawn, Chewbacca and Han go to Kashyyyk, after winning the Millennium Falcon from Lando Calrissian.

  • Indeed, that is when Chewie proposes to Mallatobuck. – Aidje talk 03:47, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
  • I thought I read somewhere that Chewie hasn't seen his wife since 55 BBY though.
    • i know he gets married and one of the "enemy" wookie "clans" was kinda upset and well chewie also had a son Waroo ahort for LUMPAWAROO (I THINK)<**>Ewokmenace 14:56, 5 January 2008 (UTC)ewokmenace

[edit] Slavery canon check

Can anyone confirm the canon status of this, from the current article? I was under the impression Chewbacca himself was a slave.

  • Following the recent turn of events, Chewbacca often attempted freeing Wookiees slaves who had been captured by either the Empire or Trandoshan slavers. On one such endeavor, he became involved in a botched slave transfer between a Trandoshan crew and an Imperial commander named Nyklas. After Chewbacca orchestrated the escape of most of the slaves, Nyklas was infuriated and ordered a young officer named Han Solo to kill the Wookiee (who had been rendered unconscious), Solo refused and was drummed out of Imperial service.

Havac 20:45, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

  • That's what happens in Chewbacca, yes, but he was one of the slaves too, as I recall. - Lord Hydronium 21:01, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
    • No, the story where he is a slave is earlier, it's chapter 3. I believe its chapter 6 with nyklas and chewie rescueing wookiees of another clan. Fritzler 03:11, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] More expansion

Well, the improvement drive is about over. It helped some, but there is still more work to be done. This definitely needs more info from The Holiday Special, Shadows of the Empire, and Return of the Jedi, at least. -- Ozzel 04:21, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

  • SOTE and ROTJ are added. Havac

The beginning of the article says that his son's name is Lumpawaroo, but the rest of the article refers to him as Lumpawarump. I guess this is a typo that needs fixing?

  • Don't think so. His son was named Lumpawarrump until he passsed the rite of passage and was renamed Lumpawaroo. Looks like this article handles this correctly. -Finlayson 01:56, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Caption/Quote

I think this article should keep at least one quote [caption or something] by Chewbacca, like "Aaarrg!". -Finlayson 22:26, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

  • If we could find something he said that was translated into a human language, and that was significant, I'd agree. - Angel Blue 451 22:28, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
    • I mainly meant a caption. But there are a few books that translate Wookie lanuage coments. - Finlayson 22:42, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
  • I'm all for having a Chewbacca quote, but a caption that simply says "Aaargh!" strikes me as somewhat silly and not very encyclopedic. - Angel Blue 451 23:00, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
    • but wouldn't it make people smile...which isn't the point i know :P Jedi Dude 23:12, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
    • What we might consider unencyclopedic may not be so in universe. -Finlayson 23:25, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
  • But that's not really the point. In any universe, part of something that is "encyclopedic" is that is it is informative. Readers in this universe can glean absolutely no information from "Aargh" other than the fact that they do not understand the language. - Angel Blue 451 23:30, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
      • to be honest, if we can find a translated one have it if not, a nice argh will do :P Jedi Dude 23:33, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
      • But having an idea of the sound IS informative. -Finlayson 23:35, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Still, what's the point if no one understands it? - Angel Blue 451 23:33, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kessel Run

This article says their First Kessel run broke the 12 parsec record and their Second one was the cargo drop one. From what I remember from the HS trilogy, they did runs before that. And the record one was racing Salla (& saving her). Anybody know the details? -Finlayson 00:51, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 200 BBY to 19 ABY

Why is it called his early life?--Herbsewell 01:25, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

  • Don't know. Seem OK to me. I can't think of a better term at the moment. Do you have a suggestion? -Fnlayson 01:54, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
    • Well I just wanted to know why 88 percent of his life is considered the early part of it.--Herbsewell 01:14, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
      • Wookiees are considered young their first 100 years or so. Chewbacca at 200 was still a young adult Wookiee. Other articles use early life too. Seems fine to me unless there's a better suggestion. -Fnlayson 18:49, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] chewie a real boy?

did anybody hear that george lucas admitted that chewie was actually a really really really really hairy human and not a "wookie"? Unsigned comment by 209.43.33.201 (talk • contribs).

  • uhh thats weird any way did u know (theese r just rumors i found on this is true but this is what it said) -did u know kenny baker(we all should know who that is, just incase you didn't its the guy inside r2) was arrestesfor drunkdriving, and that the guy in the suit not the voice of darth vader started a nudist society in France wait ir was that the chewie guy hmm can't remember. Oh if any of you own a wii you can get miis from the internet ive got dth Vader, an ewok, a storm trooper, and darth maul and i made Luke Leia Lando and Han. [edit] Correction to Sernpidal section ?

I noticed in the Mission to Sernpidal and aftermath article that Han and Chewbacca were "managing to rescue millions of Sernpidalians, using both the Millennium Falcon and various other available freighters." While not attempting to discredit Chewbacca's sacrifice, it is worth noting that on page 235 of Vector Prime it says: "If they didn't find the source, and soon, tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands would die."

Therefore I hereby suggest that the page is edited to show the correct # of Sernpidalians saved through the actions of Chewbacca. Unsigned comment by Corellian Ken (talk • contribs).

  • I'll check my other sources and see if any list 'millions'. -Fnlayson 21:18, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
  • The Chewbacca comic TPB and New Essential Chronology do not mention any numbers. Vector Prime mentions 111 ships in the convey from Sernpidal. So probably saved several thousand. Changing it to 'rescue many (or numerous)' would be better. -Fnlayson 03:10, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

On p289 of Vector Prime Lando says when talking to Han "And twenty thousand people are glad that you were!" Jedinite 9:02, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Qui-Gon Jinn's quote

Why is there a quote from Qui-Gon Jinn about Chewbacca? That makes no sense! He dies before anyone even sees a Wookie! Wookieisawesome 11:36, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

  • Heh, apparently Qui-Gon worked with Chewy to colonize Alaris Prime... gotta love this site, u learn something new every day. --Azizlight 11:43, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Why is a quote that Qui-Gon Jinn said on Chewbacca's article? By the way Qui-Gon was talking about Obi-Wan not Chewie.--Windu223 17:32, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

  • The quote is not from Phantom Menace, it's from Galactic Battlegrounds. You might have gotten confused there. Stake black msg 18:01, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pic

Would this be a good one? It's a portrait and it dosn't cut off any of the head. - Captain Majors

  • It would. It is already used in the Crisis on Bespin section. -Fnlayson 00:41, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Main image

Do we have a headshot? Darth Anxor 00:57, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

  • The Infobox image needs to show most of his body to fully show what he looks like. It's not like he's a human and only needs a head shot to show what he looks like. Requiring head shots in the Infobox got voted down in a Consensus track vote within the last few months. -Fnlayson 19:06, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Urrrrr

Um, nice article. I'm a bit tired right now, so don't really have anything to say about Chewie other than that he seems to be a a nice large hairy Wookiee that goes "Urrrr" a lot. 204.52.215.107 04:52, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
