Talk:Clutch (fighter)

Ch-ch-changes
Edit
Explaining the changes I just made:
- There is no evidence that the Clutch is an official part of the TIE series, and at no time in "I, Jedi" was it referred to as a TIE Clutch. I'd have moved it to "Tri-fighter," which seems to be the more official name, but that could cause confusion. It might be good if someone wants to do that and then make a disambiguation page, but I don't think it's necessary.
- The fins aren't referred to as "solar panels." They're just called "blades" or "fins." Either Stackpole got some sense about how physics work, or we got lucky.
- There is no evidence that the Galactic Empire or Imperial Remnant ever used the Clutch, just the Invids.
- That image was fanon, from Darksaber's X-wing Station. Since there is no canon depiction of the Clutch, this article just doesn't get a picture.
I did a pretty exhaustive source search before I did this, but please let me know if there is any valid canon evidence to contradict these points. —Darth Culator (talk) 03:41, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
- I think Ive seen a pic for it somewhere... just the ball cockpit with fins on it... not sure if that and the clutch are the same thing --Razzy1319 03:47, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
- Don't confuse it with the TIE Raptor Dangerdan97 15:04, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
- Well, there could always be another image that could be confused with the TIE Raptor. Admiral J. Nebulax (talk)

- Scum and Villainy clarifies that the three fins on the Clutch are indeed rebuilt solar panels - as could have been expected from a modified TIE. Lynata 18:00, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Origin of nickname?
Edit
Presumeably the 'tri-fighter' moniker was adapted because they somewhat resemble a droid tri-fighter in appearance.Tocneppil 05:02, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- Other way around. "Tri-fighter" was the semi-official name of the ship, "clutch" was simply the nickname given to it by Rebel pilots (like "eyeball," "bright," "dupe" and "squint"); the two names should be switched, with Tri-fighter being the official one. (And we could simply add a disambiguation page, with "Tri-fighter: Separatist droid fighter" and "Tri-fighter: Invid fighter" for clarification).
