Talk:Concave Dish Composite Beam Superlaser

From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.

Shouldn't we merge this with superlaser? After all, it is just a simple variant that nobody has heard of, and will be much better merged. Unit 8311 20:34, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Targets

What is the source for the statement, that the DSI superlaser was not capable of firing on spaceships, like the DSII did in the Battle of Endor? I mean we don't see the DSI firing on ships in the movie because there are none at Yavin. But according to Star Wars Rebellion, the DSI type Death Star is able to fire on ships and in the novel Champions of the Force the Death Star Protoype wich was build at the same time but never finished was able to fire on starships... • I think it might be fanon. —Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) 11:17, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
  • But if the prototype was capable of it and it was built before, why couldn't the DS I as well? VT-16 18:30, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
    • Actually, the prototype was built during the Death Star I's construction. —Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) 19:00, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
      • But @VT16 what is the source for the DSI inability to fire on single ships. I don't know a source. Fleetadmiral Jack Ryan 07:11, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
        • I'm trying to remember where I heard this, but the Death Star II's ninth beam (the one in the middle of the dish) supposedly allowed it to fire upon capital ships. —Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) 15:20, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
          • I know what you mean, I heard of this before too. But then I remembered that the DSI type DS in rebellion can fire on ships, there is nothing in the movie about the DSI inability to fire on ships, so what is the next level of canon? Or when does a game like Rebellion come, which is not canon in so many cases... Fleetadmiral Jack Ryan 19:20, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
            • From the Movie Trilogy Sourcebook, page 135, regarding the improvements Bevel Lemelisk made to the second Death Star: "The [super]laser was powerful enough, but there was room for improvement in the weapon's targeting systems and rate of fire. At this, Lemelisk was highly successful. The powerful beam could now be focused much more finely and quickly, allowing it to fire at a moving target, such as a capital ship." jSarek 19:33, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
  • Then we now have a source for the the claim that the first "movie" death star can not fire on capital ships. But what is now higher canon? The Sourcebook, the Champions of the Force novel (for the maw installion DS prototype, which can fire on capital ships), or rebellion? I think the sourcebook is the highest level of canon, or isn't it? Fleetadmiral Jack Ryan 10:01, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
    • I'd go with the Sourcebook. But the Death Star prototype being able to fire on capital ships in Champions of the Force could have been a modification made in the Maw Installation after the Battle of Yavin. —Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) 14:25, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
      • There is another source to consider. In the novel Death Star, a Lucrehulk is destroyed by Superlaser fire.

[edit] Number of beams of the second death star

According to the screencap fireing DSII I am going to correct this article. It is clear to be seen that only eight beams come out of the laser dish (including the central one), not nine. --Sundace 10:39, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
