Talk:Cracian thumper
Back to page
Where the heck is this picture from? This looks nothing like the Cracian Thumper seen in the Rebel Alliance Sourcebook or The Thrawn Trilogy Sourcebook. jSarek 22:41, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- The picture appears in the 2nd ed. Revised and Expanded WEG rulebook, but I think it's actually an Ukian torbull. The labelling in the book is ambiguous, which probably caused the confusion. —Silly Dan (talk) 23:07, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- Can someone get a scan of a correct picture, from either the Rebel Alliance Sourcebook or The Thrawn Trilogy Sourcebook? jSarek 09:39, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry my fault! I have upload the image from The Thrawn Trilogy Sourcebook. —volemlock, 15 April 2006
Saxton mistake debunked
Edit
- I have corrected the incorrect assumption by Saxton, mentioned in the BTS, that the rockhopper from the Droids cartoons is a Cracian thumper. To his credit, he does mention the similarity may be coincidental--which it is. Apparently he did not realize another Droids episode had established a name for this species. While his mistake is forgivable, it does not need to be propogated.JustinGann 03:00, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
- Fair enough. I've not seen the episode in question, let alone other episodes, so I only had his work to go on. Anyway, given that this was buried in a back corner of his site rather than being one of his keystone setpieces like the Endor Holocaust or size pages (I only found it by some intensive Googleing), I don't think we need to take the page space to specifically point to his error, rather than just point out what the creature in question really is. jSarek 04:11, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Capitalization
Edit
When I originally wrote the article, I went with both words capitalized. Now, I'm not so sure I made the right choice. Five sources use both words capitalized in regular text - Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, Second Edition, Dark Force Rising Sourcebook, The Thrawn Trilogy Sourcebook, The Essential Atlas, and a single reference in Child of Light. Only "Cracian" is capitalized in Rebel Alliance Sourcebook, Second Edition, Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, Second Edition, Revised and Expanded, Lords of the Expanse, Tapani Sector Instant Adventures, Rules of Engagement: The Rebel SpecForce Handbook, Galactic Gazetteer: Hoth and the Greater Javin, Alliance Intelligence Reports, Star Wars Gamemaster Screen, Revised, and several other references in Child of Light. To complicate things further, the Rebellion Era Campaign Guide just lowercased BOTH terms. So, there's precedent for all three capitalizations, with "Cracian thumper" being the most common, but "Cracian Thumper" and "cracian thumper" being what is used in the two most RECENT sources, the Atlas and the Campaign Guide. So, how should this critter's name be capitalized in our article? jSarek 13:25, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- If it were a real-world creature, we'd most likely spell it Cracian thumper, since Cracian is derived from the proper noun Craci, and this is the critter's common name. This would be analogous to Bengal tiger or African elephant. But, of course, this isn't a real-world creature, so I'm not sure any of this is relevant. I'd say it just comes down to personal preference. You expanded the article to its current state, so choose the version you like and use it consistently. Explain the discrepencies in BTS and be done with it. In other words, stylistic consistency is really all we can hope for in a situation like this. :) ~ SavageBob 14:02, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
