Talk:Diamond
Back to page
Isn't the reason that diamonds are so valuable in the real world because of some monopolies and side-of-mouth claims that they are rare? It seems odd to me that it would also be so in the star-wars universe, but O.K.
- It's more complicated than that in real life. While De Beers does qualify as a cartel, the fact of the matter is that mining or synthesizing diamonds is very difficult and costly. Although, they are able to synthesize diamonds in Star Wars, such as in the Corellian Sanctuary. One would think that such technology would lower prices.-LtNOWIS 01:35, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- Supply would be greater in the Star Wars universe, but so would demand. You have to remember that there are countless trillions of people in the GFFA. Also, synthetic diamonds are less valuable in the real world than natural ones. The same would probably hold true in Star Wars. As for them being more valuable per carat than in the real world, I'm unaware of there being any established exchange rate between Galactic Standard Credits and any Earth currency. — Red XIV (talk) 19:17, December 27, 2009 (UTC)
