Illustrated Star Wars UniverseEdit

Hi. I recently got the Illustrated Star Wars Universe from the library, and found a Ralph McQuarrie paining of Endor seen from the moon. I've isolated the planet, so maybe you guys can use it in the article: image shack dot U S )/img429/2295/endor7hh.jpg -Odin

  • Oof. Enhanced the image...

File:Endorpink.png

So, here we have two images. The McQuarrie concept looks a bit green but sources say that Endor had a pink look. Redemption 23:36, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

ImageEdit

My objections to the pink image:

  • It's fan edited. Not even a minor thing like a clone brush, it's modified to the degree that it looks completely different from the source image. The only precedent for this is Rokur Gepta, and even regarding this, see my objections below.
  • No offense, but it's very crudely done. The black you added for space forms a ragged outline that looks less like the horizon of a planet and more like someone filled in black in that space in Photoshop. The planet itself is blurry, high contrast, and incredibly oversaturated. It's less "pinkish" and more "vivid purple".
  • What sources say it's pinkish? The only reference to that on the page is that a pinkish planet of some sort appears in ROTJ. Even if so, due to the sky you cannot make out any color detail on the Ralph McQuarrie illustration, so there's no way to tell if it's really pinkish or greenish or tie-dye.

The image File:Endor2.JPG is a canon image. The other one isn't. It's fan art. The canon one shows us the planet, and in sufficient detail. It's unnecessary to take that perfectly reasonable canon image, crank up the contrast, and change the color values. You get no more detail (as it's from the same source image), in my opinion the image looks worse, not better, and unless there's a soruce calling Endor bright purple, it doesn't bring it any more in line with canon. - Lord Hydronium 02:46, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

    • Fair enough. But seriously, there was no need to call my skills into question. Redemption 00:36, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
      • I didn't mean to be rude, just honestly critiquing it. Take the Rokur Gepta as an example. If it weren't as seamless as the current version is, would we use it? Even canon images need to have proper scans or captures, without blurriness or artifacting. I hate to say it, but if it comes down to that, quality does matter. - Lord Hydronium 03:29, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
      • Adding some constructive criticism, so I don't come off as just a jerk: Except for the blurriness of the cloud area itself, the green Endor image looks better. It fits relatively well on the black background, and the cloud detail is all still there. The biggest problem with the purple one is that the contrast has been cranked up, washing out the image itself and creating an excessively lit horizon, with really sharp borders between the planet and space. Check out the planets in the movies - the biggest thing that makes them look right is accurate lighting (the night side isn't too bright or too dim) and the atmosphere, which blurs the line between ground and space, avoiding too sharp a transition. - Lord Hydronium 03:34, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
  • What about a picture from the Ewoks movies? Bodo-Baas 00:10, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

    • I realise I might be restarting an old topic, but still. The current image is one of the worst I've ever seen. Is there not a better one? Or can the contrast not be changed? Unit 8311 18:41, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

DestructionEdit

So, is this considered canon, ambiguous canon, or non-canon? Personally, I have doubts about the moons continued ability to sustain life after such an event.--Lord OblivionSith holocronSith Emblem.svg 05:12, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Gas planet???Edit

EndorSpace.jpg

Yes, it looks that way, but the surface is solid. It's just shrouded in gases, a perfect location for the secret Imperial base.

It looks toxic, yes, but it's not. That's why it's such a perfect spot for a secret Imperial base.

That "toxic" gas is actually an odd-colored Carbon Dioxide with immense levels of Oxygen under it. The planet really is beautiful.

Pinkish planet seen in the RotJ?Edit

Ok, can someone seriously provide some evidence that a pinkish planet was even seen during the Battle of Endor scenes? As far as I know, that statement is BS because nobody proves this point true by having pictures. If I wanted too I could remove that part because nobody backs it. I have re-watched the Battle of Endor countless times and always fail to capture any "Pinkish planet". Anyone care to provide proof? Gh45 08:03, April 3, 2010 (UTC)

  • I just looked through the scene where Lando comes out of light-speed at Death Star II and Endor and there is no pink planet, nor is there one from the view point of Admiral Ackbar's viewport. The section was in direct contradiction of itself so I removed it. --DarthZaiger 02:40, February 8, 2011 (UTC)

Endor/Tana: Name change? Edit

We have "Mon Calamari (planet)" redirecting to "Dac", which is the "real name" (i.e. the one used by the native Quarrens and Mon Calamari). If we follow this logic, shouldn't this article be renamed "Tana"? After all, we don't have Kashyyyk under "Edean", do we? --LelalMekha 13:17, May 29, 2012 (UTC)

  • I think in this case it should be what the galaxy at large refers to it as, since Tana seems to be an Ewok-only name from their Ewok mythology. We never hear the Duloks refer to it as Tana, and as much as they differ from and hate the Ewoks, I doubt they would anyway. Adamwankenobi 15:24, May 29, 2012 (UTC)
    • You have a point. I was just thinking about it because I was confronted to the silliness of writing " Endor, a moon orbiting planet Endor"... I must confess I've never seen a single episode of the old Ewok animated series, so I had no idea the Duloks could be heard saying "Endor". --LelalMekha 15:34, May 29, 2012 (UTC)
      • Well, I don't remeber the Duloks mentioning it at all. I meant that we are given no reason to think Tana is used by anyone but the Ewoks. Adamwankenobi 15:46, May 29, 2012 (UTC)
