Talk:Fifth Battle of Coruscant (Galactic Civil War)
From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.
I keep removing that picture since it is actually an image depicting the New Republic victory during the First Battle of Coruscant (Galactic Civil War). QuentinGeorge 04:46, 4 Nov 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Battle?
New Essential Chronology says that the Empire abandoned Coruscant after Palpatine's detah. Do those sources actually say that the NR had to fight to regain it? Kuralyov 05:41, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
- He who controls Coruscant will rule over stars themselves. I sincerely doubt they just turned tail and ran. They probably had to fight to get it back. Also, I remember reading in The Essential Guide to Characters the Wedge Antilles flew an X-wing with Rogue Squadron when they retook Coruscant. Granted, that might be outdated. -- SFH 06:02, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
- The exact words from NEC, pg 159: Without orders, the confused Imperial fleet went into retreat, abandoning Coruscant and other Core planets. Kuralyov 17:24, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, Jedi Search does have a small blurb about the New Republic fighting a battle to retake the planet. My damned copy is missing, but I think I can direct someone with a copy handy to finding it. During the first few chapters, I think around when Wedge and Co are working with the construction droids, Wedge mentions that he had been spending the past few months moving the wreckage of warships that were lost when the New Republic reclaimed its capital. If I can find my copy (in a box buried deep in my closet) I will post the quote, unless someone else finds it first. AdmiralNick22 22:47, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, Coruscant took enough Damage during the re-taking that several other debris belts was formed. The battle was described as "bloody" and there were many civilian casualties. Also, was it Empire vs New Republic, or New Republic vs. Warlord A, B, C and then Empire? -SWF
- "Much of Imperial City had been laid waste during the months of civil war following the downfall of Grand Admiral Thrawn. The various factions of the old Empire had fought over the Emperor's home world, turning vast districts into graveyards of crashed ships and exploded buildings. But the tide of battle had turned, and the New Republic had driven back the vestiges of the Empire. Many Alliance soldiers now turned their efforts to repairing the damage, his friend Wedge Antilles among them. Top priority had been given to rebuilding the former Imperial Palace and the Senate chambers. The Emperor's own construction droids ranged through the battle‑scarred wastelands, automatically scraping up raw materials from the wreckage for conversion into new buildings."

" - Hmmm, this qoute from Jedi Search doens't really point out that the damage on Coruscant is from the NR's retaking. It could easily be that Coruscant was still wrecked from the Empire's attack (the one prior to Dark Empire, that would be the 4th battle I guess). And now that the NR has once again control over Coruscant they rebuilt it.
"But the tide of battle had turned, and the New Republic had driven back the vestiges of the Empire." - and this doens't tell that the NR fought over coruscant specifically. it could be that the empire was losing in general and decided to regroup and thus abandoning coruscant.
conclusion: the damage on coruscant is from the fourth battle, but the NR could only repair that after the empire abanoned coruscant in the 5th "battle". --BaldFett 17:00, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
