Talk:Flak gun
Back to page
if anyone can add a pic of the Seppie mass driver, it would be appreciated --Lowkey
- Like their deck-cannon, you mean? I think I have one at home. :) VT-16 16:02, 13 Dec 2005 (UTC)
- Hmm...I thought, watching the movie, that these guns were shooting proton torpedoes or concussion missiles, and the guys were running around with extra torpedoes to refill the ammo magazines. It seemed to me that the shots of the mass-drivers getting blown up was meant to show that the ships were firing into each others gunports with them. Is there a source that specifically says these are AA flak guns?--Commander Mike 05:03, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- I only know of the ROTS:VD and they were massdrivers there. The thin cannon on top of the main gun was an ion cannon. VT-16 21:01, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
- Flak presumably wouldn't be shot at capital ships, like it was in the film. -LtNOWIS 00:34, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- They might use those ion cannons to weaken the shields and pepper the hulls with flak. In zero or near-zero atmosphere, flak would be much more effective. Just think of the rl danger to spaceships and stations above Earth, with all the space junk floating around. VT-16 06:24, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- or they could use different shells such as explosive rounds INSTEAD of flak rounds bcuz it is a mass driver it means it can use many different types of rounds solid explosive or flak just to name a few
- Actually, looking at the scene I think it's safe to say that Lucas was just deliberately trying dumb down the Separatist weapons by having turbolasers spit out empty casings after they've fired. It seems to be something he's fond of doing, making PT technology look primitive and whatnot (think starfighters and hyperdrives) despite the fact that there's been thousands of years to refine it. Oh well, I guess this can still be interpreted as being a flak gun Lalala la 04:27, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

- Just because shells are used doesn't necessarily mean it's a mass driver. The shells could just be a way of storing energy and gas for turbolaser cannons that doesn't drain the reactors, which would explain why the ship has so many guns and still has tons of storage room. Behind the scenes
Edit
whoever did that edit saying that a laser could magically release all its energy in an omnidirictional explosion due to conservation of energy, you really need to go back to school. In short, no it won't, as photons will always move in a straight line and only scatter as a result of a collision Lowkey 22:06, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Crew-served weapons
Edit
Does anyone else think that in an age of such technological wonders as faster-than-light travel and artificial intelligence that the idea of droids manhandling and hand-loading a flak gun is more than a little silly? 209.244.31.37 23:35, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
They are all purpose droids, their chassis any way, why build a large loading machine when you can use the droids already running the ship? AryeonosWhat!? 21:02, July 27, 2011 (UTC)
