Homage to Anime/Manga?
Edit
The Godoans have a very, VERY manga-esque look to 'em. And the name "Fumiyo"? It seems to me that they're either a spoof of or an homage to manga character designs. The resemblance is just too obvious to be coincidental! I can crop and upload some panels in which the anime influence is really evident if anyone is interested. Trak Nar 03:03, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- It's possible but if true extremely trivial and based on original research. Personally, I don't think there's that much of a chance of a connection. There is no universal anime/manga art style and many of the more popular ones are inspired by American art anyhow. Also, it's worth noting that anime/manga weren't particularly well-known in the US during the time the Marvel comics were in publication. --Niirfa-sa 05:05, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, it's prolly just a bizarre coincidence that I'm reading too much into, though image shack dot U S )/img515/3548/fumiyo01cj4.jpg Fumiyo seems a bit too manga-esque. At the time, the only sorta-mainstream import anime were prolly reruns of Astro Boy, Speedracer, and the like. The stylings of the Godoans have a sorta Tezuka-esque look to 'em. - Fixed the image link, it should work now. Trak Nar 06:06, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, it's probably not a coincidence at all; Cynthia Martin has said that the Nagai were directly influenced by anime (which wasn't widely known in the U.S. at the time, but was familiar to the story writer, Mary Jo Duffy), and the Nagai's first appearance predates that of the Godoans. jSarek 12:09, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
