[edit] Discussion
I was just watching Mythbusters and Grant claimed to have played multiple makeup clad characters while working for Lucasfilm and I was just wondering if anyone knew who he may have been. —Unsigned comment by 207.255.199.25 (talk • contribs).
- Did he specify which movie? -- Riffsyphon1024 09:29, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- I just got a message back from him. I contacted him via MySpace and asked him about it. S W Is For Life 18:15, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
For many years, we had a sort of band of performers hired by Lucasfilm to do personal appearances.
This unit, called the Costume Appearance Unit, functioned out of the Publicity Department at Lucasfilm in the late 1990s. It was coordinated by Gillian Libbert and the following people portrayed characters:
R2-D2: Don Bies, Nelson Hall, Grant Imahara C-3P0: Grant Imahara, Jeff Wozniak Chewbacca: Mike Healy Darth Vader: Tom Bewley, C. Andrew Nelson
We picked up stormtroopers locally as needed.
I have portrayed C-3P0 for numerous live appearances such as the premiere of the Star Wars Special Edition in Westwood, CA that made Time magazine. I've also done commercials for Burger King, ESPN, WalMart and Lego in the US, and Mitsubishi in Japan. I've also done a personal appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
I have puppeteered R2-D2 for a Taco Bell commercial, a Taco Bell national convention in Nashville, TN, and The Rosie O'Donnell show, as well as many smaller personal appearances.
Originally, costume appearance characters were coordinated by Lucasfilm Archivists Don Bies and Nelson Hall. However, when the demand became much greater in the late 1990's, it was folded into the Publicity department.
Cheers, Grant
