Talk:Han shot first
From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.
to point out the obvious fact greedo was shooting a warning shot at han but he never got the oppoutunity to say that was a warning because he was dead —Unsigned comment by Ralok Agum (talk • contribs).
- That's sound pretty stupid of him, he already knew Han knew he wanted to kill him.--Herbsewell 15:13, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Question
I was watching A New Hope on Sky Movies and it said it was the 1977 version. I had a look at some pictures on the internet and it did appear to be the real 1977 version. However, in this Greedo shot first. What gives?
[edit] Title in full capital?
Why is the title full-capital? - TopAce 16:32, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
hey guys, if you look at the picture at the top you can see that greedo's shot hits the wall when Solo's gun begins to fire. I have to say greedo shot first. Also if anyone can get a picture of the 1977 version please post it.BobafettH23 01:35, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, Greedo shot first in the revision. In the original, Greedo never got an opportunity to shoot at all, but apparently, Lucas thought it would make Han too dark if he actually fired at the person pointing a gun at him and saying he's been waiting a long time to get a chance to kill him. The revision makes it so either it's a warning shot, which means Greedo wasn't planning on killing Han right away, or it's such an incredibly bad miss that it makes Greedo look like an idiot. It would have been another thing if Han just dodged, but he just sat there as if he wasn't being shot at, because in the original, he wasn't.

- Since it IS my username, I can't resist weighing in on this. The article says that the main complaints are that it doesn't make Han look as "anti-heroic" or "dark" and that it's just really unbelievable that anybody could miss from such close range. For me it's always been the second thing, since I like competent villains a lot more than pitiful ones (one reason why I never much cared for any villain created by Kevin J. Anderson with the possible exception of Exar Kun). For hundreds or thousands of stormtroopers to be such poor marksmen is bad enough, but for Greedo to miss at that range is just pathetic and stupid in my opinion and, I have no doubt, in the opinions of many of the people who object to this change.
- The simple fact is that while Han might have been one of the good guys, he wasn't a saint. If he was, he wouldn't have had any sort of business relationship with Jabba at all. But instead he turned a blind eye to Jabba's feeding people to the rancor and the Sarlacc on a whim and other examples of his cruelty and was happy to work for him.
- If you don't use this situation as a methaphor for the debate on whether or not preemptive military strikes are acceptable and just look at it as a couple of sentients in a cantina with guns, there's not much wrong with Han shooting first. Greedo explicitly stated that Han would be taken to Jabba, which is close to being a threat of death or torture in and of itself. At the very least, he'd lose the Falcon, which was unacceptable to him. Greedo was also indicating that he was going to shoot Han at any moment, as when he says "That's the idea...I've been looking forward to this for a long time" in response to Han's "Over my dead body!" Chances are that he didn't mean "I've been looking forward to marching you through the streets at gunpoint to a meeting with Jabba for a long time." Also, if you're not thinking about the ethics of firing before being fired upon and are just trying to enjoy a movie, as I was when I first saw this scene, you can't help but admire Han's sneakiness and give him props.
- It occurs to me that a decent compromise would be to change the color of the blaster bolt to blue, dub in some lines to the effect of "Is he dead?" "No, just stunned," and proceed as normal. If you include the Jabba scene in the same movie, you just remove the line where he asks why it was necessary to vaporize poor Greedo. That would, at minimum, be much less lame IMHO.--HanShotFirst 00:37, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
- Hey, I'm still waiting for the special edition of
Raiders of the Lost ArkIndiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark that has the Cairo Swordsman throw his sword and then fire off a few rounds from a submachine gun before being shot by Indy. -BaronGrackle 03:07, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Why
This article has nothing to do with the Star Wars Story it's just fan ranting why is it here?--T-Rex1 17:49, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- It's not fan ranting, it's an objective article about what has become a rather popular reference to the Star Wars movies.--Isley 19:17, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
I guess your right but won't this desecend into a edit war?--T-Rex1 20:56, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- Don't think so. As I said it remains an objective article. It's purpose is not to support the "Han Shot First" campaign but to explain it. And even if it does turn into an edit war the admins will just lock it. --Isley 17:13, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
