Jaing the Mythosaur
Edit
I believe Jaing was a Mythosaur... --File:BFguy.gif--Inmobilus 10:43, 30 Oct 2005 (UTC)
- Impossible, mythosaurs are 1) Non sentinent 2) Extinct by the time of the New Sith Wars, 3) Non humanoid. 4) Huge - they built a city out of one. QuentinGeorge 10:45, 30 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Dead Jaing (without helmet) - Well, just look at the bone structure in his face. He does have the hornthingies :). I can upload a picture (from Visionaries) if you want. But I could be wrong though...--File:BFguy.gif--Inmobilus 11:01, 30 Oct 2005 (UTC)
- His helmet is a skull, yes. But he's far too small to be a mythosaur. QuentinGeorge 11:16, 30 Oct 2005 (UTC)
- Ok, but still... This picture from Visionaries confuses me a lot. You can clearly see his face without his helmet. --File:BFguy.gif--Inmobilus 11:24, 30 Oct 2005 (UTC)
- Is that meant to be Durge with Jaing, because he looks nothing like his depiction in Obsession (you can see his face, and he basically looks like a rabid-dog thing with no skin. Seeing as this is Visionaries, perhaps we shouldn't take these likenesses as definitive, so Jaing may not resemble the Mythosaur/Mando crest - Kwenn
- I'm pretty sure Jaing is still wearing a helmet there. QuentinGeorge 20:06, 30 Oct 2005 (UTC)
- Kwenn: Yes, that meant to Durge, and maybe you're right...
QuintinGeorge: You can't wear a helmet over a helmet. This is definitely his face :). I can also upload a picture of Jaing with his helmet on if you want... --File:BFguy.gif--Inmobilus 14:45, 31 Oct 2005 (UTC)

- I think that using Durge's face is unfair: for all we know, the Obsession pic shows his facial musculature with skin/cartilage ripped off.--Erl 20:09, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

- Maybe Jaing's species evolved from or had a common ancestor with the mythosaurs.--Darth Oblivion 02:09, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
- The Mandalorian Skull symbol you guy's are talking about was once believed to be a Bantha Skull (even though it looks nothing like a Bantha head), because that's how LucasFilms usually has it listed when they are selling items with the symbol on it. Once the Star Wars Insider article came out about the History of the Mandalorians, it stated that the Mandalorians conquered the planet they later renamed Mandalore, and hunted down and wiped out all the massive native beasts, called Mythosaurs (so, I don't believe Jaing is a Mythosaur). Because of that article and statement, it was assumed that the skull symbol was that of a Mythosaur. However, there has been nothing concrete that absolutely says what the skull is supposed to be. Once the Visionaries story came out, that put a whole new twist on the symbol. Here you have a former Mandalorian, Jaing, whose head skull is shaped exactly like the Mandalorian Skull symbol. The Mandalorians hunted him down in retribution for something, and one of them even said that his skull would make an excellent trophy on their leader's wall. Durge also wears this same symbol on the very front of his armor. So, I'm more inclined now to believe that it supposed to be the skull of Jaing for two obvious reasons. The first, the Mandalorian clan would use this symbol as a "trophy" symbol, and it probably would be picked up for a more common and broader use by later Mandalorians, to imcompass Mandalorians, as a whole. Similar to the way many military insignia today, are based off of old designs. The second reason, Durge hates the Mandalorians. Why would he wear that symbol, unless it was as a sign of respect for his former master and friend. He would wear it out of spite of the Mandalorians, for that affect. That's just my opinion, though. - Yes, if Mandalorians killed him they wouldnt use his head to define the mandalorians as a whole, and that having been said and clarifying that as not being the case, Durge would most definately wear that symbol in remembrance of his friend if his skull does indeed resemble it, because Durge hates the mandalorians, he wouldnt use the symbol they identify themselves with as a whole.Kardo Sett 23:23, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe he's a subspecies of Taung?Darth Ceratis 05:22, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Wow you people still don't get do you. Everyone bases this whole symbol thing about the Essential Guide pick with a beast rider wearing A symbol on his shoulder. THAT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE THE MANDALORIAN SYMOBOL. LOL.It's not the symbol, look at it for yourselves and stop posting wrong information. If fact this is so much so that Dustin Weaver fixed this mistake in issue 8 of KOTOR, and created the new symbol that now belongs to the Mandalorians 2000 years before Jaing. Jaing's head is indeed the modern symbol of the Mandalorians. The whys are not of concern--152.163.100.141 02:14, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Taking out reference to the Mandalorian Skull.
Edit
Weather or not canon exists to prove either, I think it's a little bit of bad form to take out the Behind the Scenes text from the article. I have replaced the reciently deleted text with a more neutral text line explaining that there is no canon to back up either claim.
Star Wars Insider #80 article:
"The traditional Mandalorian crest, frequently mistaken for a Bantha Skull, bears a striking resemblance to the skull of a male mythosaur. But in truth, the symbol was actually adopted in reverence to a legendary Mandalorian combat-training master. "

Where have I seen him before
Edit
I swear I have seen Jaing (or at leat another goofy looking non human mandalorian) in another dark horse comic. Can anyone confirm this, or remind me who it actually was? if it was him, the appearances need to be added to. IthinkIwannaLeia 18:57, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
CSWE
Edit
Right, CUSWE says he survived the Mandalorian Wars but its a clear mistake. I think it should be relegated to the BtS. -- AdmirableAckbar (Talk) 21:34, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
- He couldn't have survived the Mandalorian Wars, because he would have been thousands of years old by the time of his death. --Danik Kreldin 21:14, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
How do you pronounce Jaing?
Edit
Always wondered how you pronounce his name.
