[edit] One Apocryphal Tale of Jorg Sacul

Here is one tale, told from smugglers to old Stormtroopers, of the life of Jorg Sacul:

"Jorg Sacul is a rebel pilot from the early days of the rebellion. His early exploits involve the Empire's early recruiting of civilian (non-clone) soldiers into the Imperial Forces. The cloners were proficient, but the galaxy was expansive. The clone pilots were good at non-intuitive missions, but without their Jedi commanders they were found to be lacking.

Jorg was eager to serve, as he had been an apprentice Jedi who'd washed out of the program as a teen, and heard all the rumors and stories of how the leadership of the Jedi were corrupt. He enlisted in the Corellian Defense League during the last year of the Clone Wars, feeling that even if the Jedi had no use for him, he could still serve honorably for his parent's homeland security. At the end of the Clone Wars, or at least the time of the Emperor's self-proclamation of power and ultimate authority, Jorg was a lieutenant in the CDL's ranks. He served there for approximately 17 years, and then while on a mission to stop some of the constant pirate raids of Corellian outer bases, his ship and its crew vanished. At the time, because of all the traffic in the system, it was assumed that the ship and all hands were lost. Some debris was found, but the case was never reopened by the CDL.

In actuality, Jorg Sacul and his crew had met up with a corvette of Alderaanian registry. The men had basically jumped ship and joined the Rebellion against the Empire. All were willing participants in the mutiny, which they felt was more of doing the right thing, than mutiny against their home forces. For the next three years, he operated as a pilot and instructor of new recruits for the Rebellion. His specialty was training new pilots in the Incom T-65, known as the "X-wing". His particular fighter, Red Five, had just come off of maintenance and repair at the Yavin base when a new face arrived. Luke Skywalker, a outland bush pilot, needed a ship, and because of the nature of the mission (imminent attack by the Empire's terrible new weapon, Death Star) Jorg gave his ship to the young man. There were several Y-wings needing pilots, and Jorg always had an affection for the old figher-bombers. That, and Jorg had known Luke's aunt Beru from his youth. Luke and Jorg had a chance to talk briefly, and Jorg knew he had no choice. This young man had a destiny to fulfill.

The rest is history, of course. Luke Skywalker destroyed the Death Star, and of the 30 Rebel ships sent against the mammoth space station, Jorg and Luke's were among the few survivors. Jorg had enjoyed the Y-wing's durable and resilient performance so much, when they returned to Yavin, he gave Red Five to Luke for good. Jorg's R2 unit, R2-B9, was pleased as well, as he felt the Y-wing was much more responsive to his programming."
