Talk:Katarn-class commando armor

From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.

I don't believe this requires an italicized class name, as it's not named after a ship of any sort. --SparqMan 02:17, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Exactly. I am unitalicizing it. (<-- How do you say "remove it being italic" in correct English, anyway? - TopAce 16:01, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
    • As for you question, "removing italics" is fine enough. Admiral J. Nebulax (talk) 16:04, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
    • It is italicized in the text of Dark Lord. And I don't think "because they're named after ships" is the actual reason for italicization of ship-class names -Kev-La Ttolya 07:22, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
      • Yes, I noticed that, too. Maybe I will change the title to italics. - TopAce (Talk) 13:16, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Protection quality of the Katarn Armor

Is this armor stronger than Phase II clone trooper armor? Cause it seems like it but I find it odd that Commandos would be supplied with better armor than ARC Troopers. --Darthsith19 23:56, 15 Jan 2006 (UTC)

  • I think so, Katarn-class armor is super-durable. But it's also fairly bulky. -LtNOWIS 11:04, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

It definatley is Stronger than Phase 2 armor,ARC-trooper armor, and Stormtrooper armor. In fact it rivals the strength of a armor from another Universe called the MJOLNIR Mark 5 which appears in the game Halo:Combat Evolved.Which if I belive so,several Aspects from Halo were put into Republic Commando.Sith-venator 00:05, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

I also find it strange that Republic Commandos have stronger armor than ARCs. Perhaps ARCs are noted for their skill. I guess they don't need bulky armor. If anything, it might just slow them down! JangoFett 00:10, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Thats a good point.Sith-venator 00:11, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

I'd say that the RCs get better armor because the ARC program was basically a nonstarter as far as the Kaminoans were concerned-remember, they had them in stasis even after Geonosis and were concerned about just how loyal they'd be. Not to mention that ARCs don't occupy the same role as RCs-RCs are direct-action badasses; ARCs mostly seem to serve as Jedi advisors and later on, train Commanders. It's an apples-to-oranges comparison.

I'm guessing it's because RC's are expected to have more hard contact with the enemy, as you see with Delta & Omega; as opposed to ARC's who do more spying, sabotage, data retrieval, black op type missions - as you see with the Nulls, and some of them being assigned to Jedi Generals who are more in command situations - as you see with Maze for example. So RC's would need more protection, hence bulkier armor; but ARC's would need more freedom of movement, hence less protection but less bulk. Astro Droid 05:00, September 10, 2009 (UTC)

[edit] German version

The article on the German wiki seems reasonably longer. Could anyone take a look at it, and expand this article? - TopAce (Talk) 13:20, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
