Kaiburr
Edit
Did this need a Kaiburr crystal to operate? I cannot find any canon sources that need it specifically, but then again there isn't much canon material on it. I know Lumiya used a Kaiburr shard in her lightwhip, but does that make it a compulsory component? Xhysa 22:18, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
- None that I've seen. Thanos6 08:55, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
- I doubt Kit Fisto had access to Kaiburr crystals when he built his. -LtNOWIS 00:29, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
Kit Fisto didn't build it, Obi-Wan did. But yeah I think it would just be a crystal, much like a lightsaber.
Different Types of Lightwhip?
Edit
- It seems that throughout the EU we've seen different kinds of Lightwhip: Githany's flexible-lightsaber (which is similar to the bounty hunters and Kit Fisto's); and Lumiya's Lightwhip, which seems to have an actual physical component to it (it's also the one in the NEGTWT). I dunno if it's that different or simply more strands, but Lumiya's strands float for example, they were not affected by gravity. --Sauron18 19:29, 14 June 2006
- If we suppose a purely energy based whip akin to a regular saber, then the whip would be massless just like a saber's blade. The question raises itself, would it be possible to give such a whip any momentum as you would a regular whip? And if not, then how would you fight with it?
- Yes, there are different types, the more traditional, such as Xist's., Fisto/Kenobi's, Githanys's etc. which were just whips of light, which could be giving momentum as we've seen, Lumiya's is different, it had solid 'physical' components, which Luke could not defeat with just a lightsaber, hence why he built a lightdagger in the marvel comics. - So why is it that a lightwhip can't be countered with a regular lightsaber? What does a short saber do that a regular one doesn't? Also, how does a lightwhip compare to an amphistaff? The Jedi didn't seem to have any problems with fighting those in their flexible form, so what makes this solid-matter lightwhip so special? (Lalala la 03:12, 13 December 2006 (UTC))
--well thats simple, if hte lightwhip was created in the sith era when a mineral like cortosis,(a type of mineral that can block a light saber) was in such a high demand, is it possible that a lightwhip could be made out of cortosis? Thats the only explanation that i can think of. Oh and with a short saber like yodas it maintains the same power, but it's concentrated in a smaller blade. But as for the amphistaff, i don't even know what that is. But then again i got all this from the darth Bane book.
- i thought that was a rumor like beskarEwokmenace 15:35, 5 January 2008 (UTC)ewokmenace
- I would have thought Luke used a shorter saber for the 'two weapons is better than one' approach. I should imagine whip against two lightsabers would be somewhat difficult to defend against. If it coils around one you're pretty much dead. 82.19.167.91 08:18, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
Sources
Edit
Surely there is mroe than one source for this article? It would seem such from the discussion...and there are certainly more available sources than jsut the Guide. PsychoInfiltrator 20:07, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
- There are many appearances yes, but only one source so far. An appearance is just what it sounds, an appearance in-story. A source is just like anything from a Guide or Official Databank. --Sauron18 20:30, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Lightwhip or Laserwhip?
Edit
In Darth Bane Path of Destruction, Bane mentions that Githany wields a "laserwhip" rather than refering to it as a lightwhip. Being that Githany's weapon is significantly different than Lumiya's, shouldn't the laserwhip have it's own page?
- well in RotJ when C3P0 is talking to the Ewoks he says"the laser swords flashed and burned" reffering to the LIGHT saber so i think that laser light waht ever you say it's the same only in science here and now a laser doesn't produce any heat does it it's just collected light so it makes a "point" not like pointy but like a laser pointer points at somethingEwokmenace 15:39, 5 January 2008 (UTC)ewokmenace
- But lasers do produce heat... Wehttambassist19:40 (CST), 25 November 2008
- No they don't.--Darth Ultimatum 17:39, August 12, 2011 (UTC)

It seems that these girls have lightwips, so it must not be a rare thing74.73.60.76 23:29, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- No they are not lightwhips but shockwhips or Laserwhips! ~ Awar 03:45, 6 August 2008 (UTC).
Jedi Training
Edit
I think it's mentioned in either Cestus Deception or Coruscant Nights that the Jedi were trained in the use of lightwhips as well as normal sabers. I have neither book right now, so if anyone could find that quotation, it would be much appreciated.---RCKTalk 19:18, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- Just read Coruscant Nights #1 and it wasn't in there.--Darth Ultimatum 17:41, August 12, 2011 (UTC)
- Nevermind it was. Sorry.--Darth Ultimatum 23:32, August 13, 2011 (UTC)
