Boba Fett: A Practical Man quote Edit

in regards to the previous revision, this quote is legit, its the first paragraph in the book.

{Quote|Warmaster, we think too often in terms of dualism: Jedi or Sith, light or dark, right or wrong. But there are three sides to this blade, not two, opposed and similar at the same time. The third edge is the Mandalorian.|Vergere, explaining galactic politics to the Yuuzhan Vong|Boba Fett: A Practical Man}}

adding my 2 cents Sambarino 21:33, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

At the time Vergere left the galaxy for Zonama Sekot and met the Yuuzhan Vong (the Clone Wars), the mandalorians were pacifists. 83.202.11.159 13:32, January 2, 2011 (UTC)
  • Actually, only one group of Mandalorians were pacifists. Bella'Mia 04:46, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

Cannon problems on the way Edit

http://karentraviss.typepad.com/blog/2009/12/sooty-and-a-clean-sweep.html We should make note of this, and prepare to rewite alot of the page. JediShifty 20:36, December 2, 2009 (UTC)

N-Canon yet? Edit

Since Traviss is dropping out of Star Wars writing, and has contradicted G-Canon, T-Canon, and even C-Canon on many occasions, can we look forward to a time when her Celtic Highlander novels turned into Mandalorian books will be considered N-Canon or, at best, S-Canon?

Because, you know... That would be great. It might be nice if Boba Fett were mysterious and cool again.

Just a thought.

75.7.201.214 05:21, 14 August 2009 (UTC) ZC

Boba will never be mysterious again cause not only is it rumored he will be in the Clone Wars series but also the live action series too. And when has Traviss ever contradicted G-Canon?

--Moon Demon 22:09, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

The Essential Atlas explains the whole New Mandalorian contradiction with canon previously established by Traviss and Open Seasons. It states that the New Mandalorian philosophy is the dominant Mandalorian philosophy by the time of the Clone Wars, but it is not universally accepted. Some Mandalorians reject the New Mandalorian ways and hold true to the traditional Mandalorian ways, and they are not just scattered individuals, but numerous enough to form several groups, albeit small groups. The Mandalorians seen in Traviss' novels and Open Seasons are these type of Mandalorians. The Essential Atlas also stated that it was during the Clone Wars that the New Mandalorian philosophy waned. Spar, Mandalore the Resurrector, would lead the traditionalist Mandalorians in re-establishing the old customs and traditions.

When does spar do that? And I believe that Boba is so much better now that he has a voice and history. Thats why Jango was better for a long time, because he had story and history.

Just something I might say about changing the level of her novels canon is that it will change several series. This includes Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi, plus all the Comando novels. Just mentioning it.--EmperorSkiratta 00:29, October 2, 2010 (UTC)

  • Karen Traviss IS the Mandalorian source! She stuck with the canon that was created around Episode II with Jango Fett and the other mandos, and marvelously created a culture and language that gives them incredible depth, and has made the mandos the best part of Star Wars for many many fans. To call her a rouge for writing inside the lines of canon at the time and creating something better then anyone else but Lucas himself is ludicrous.Ordofett 22:51, October 16, 2010 (UTC)

Dooku kills everyone Edit

Does that mean the Jedi died, or all the Mandalorians died besides Jango?—B-Boba Fett! He'll kill us all! Jaster's Feather.svg 12:04, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

  • I'm wondering about that too. Can someone clear that up? --BobaFettFan 21:11, February 1, 2010 (UTC)BobaFettFan
  • It means just the Mandalorians that were with Fett, since they were his True Mandalorians and they took up a huge chunk of the Mandalorian forces. Some of them weren't there with him anyway, such as Kal Skirata and Walon Vau. VhettSkirata Mando'ade 23:07, February 2, 2010 (UTC)

Mandalorian Family Edit

Does anyone have any referances for this section? Other then a few nods to non-species, it reads a lot like a direct copy of a kids report on Sparta, even when it doesn't seem particularly logical or even contradictory, such as women being trained to fight 'in defense of home' and 'expected to be on the front line when not raising children'. 71.6.99.158 19:24, September 23, 2009 (UTC)

First Use Edit

What is the first and oldest source of the actual name "Mandalorian"???-- Frank V Bonura 12:32, October 1, 2009 (UTC)

It was when the were first discribing Boba, he was wearing Mandalorian Armor. He at this point was not even created to be a mandalorion yet, just a bounty hunter wearing it.

Karen Traviss's blog Edit

"I was told that the Mandalorians were being revamped as long-standing pacifists who'd given up fighting centuries ago and that Mandalore was now a post-apocalyptic wasteland devastated by war."

George Lucas may have ruined Star Wars for me, forever. CHU Dhampy 04:48, December 3, 2009 (UTC)

  • I'd take anything Karen Traviss says with a grain of salt. Xenomrph 06:32, December 3, 2009 (UTC)
  • I was shocked at first but now i am starting to like the idea. It sounds like TCW is going to show the New Mandalorians and Death Watch. And if Alpha O2 is still canon maybe we'll see him in the show as well. GMo >:M:< 01:00, December 5, 2009 (UTC)
  • With contemplation, I'm more concerned by the unrealistic reaction of a violent culture to being devastated. Total defeat and devastation has only ever made militaristic societies more militaristic. The only example I can think of for a militaristic society reforming is the case of post-WWII West Germany and it was reformed through the vast rebuilding efforts of the Western Allies. Without Mandalore being rebuilt by the generosity of the victors, it's contradictory for it to turn pacifist.--CHU Dhampy 01:48, December 5, 2009 (UTC)
  • I totaly get your point, not only is this an ilogical deciosion its jsut plain stupid to reverse well known established cannon. But we realy have no say over this. On another note, Is this for the Clone wars cartoon, or the live action show? JediShifty 21:22, December 6, 2009 (UTC)
  • The implication is that the continuity change is for the cartoon.--CHU Dhampy 21:45, December 6, 2009 (UTC)
  • Tonight I emailed Ms. Traviss in reaction to this, and IC2 being cancelled. Anyone wanna see the mails exchanged?
  • Certainly. I would very much like to see the correspondence.--CHU Dhampy 04:43, December 7, 2009 (UTC)
  • Sounds good. I had heard it was dealing with some less known characters (that would realy only appear in a boba backstory). Also that quote on that top basicly contradicts the entire retcon (too bad its a good one). JediShifty 02:39, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

Ma'am, the fact that you took the time to not only read my message but also the care to send such a detailed response, means more to me than you could imagine. Thank you for putting so much thought into it.

At the very least, you've given me hope that one day the story will continue under a different author. You deserve thanks for that much, and also for leaving such a strong story to be built upon.

From: xxxxxxxx Sent: 06 December 2009 To: xxxxxxx@karentraviss.com Subject: A request for clarification

Dear Ms. Traviss,

I've been following your work in the Star Wars universe for the better half of the last three years. On an off-handed chance in a book store, I saw Hard Contact and Triple Zero sitting on the shelf and decided to wing it and see how the story went. Shortly into the reading, I was hooked. From the second I put down Triple Zero, I was on board waiting for True Colors with heavy anticipation. After that came Order 66, which ended in such a way that I couldn't wait for Imperial Commando: 501st to come out, to find out the fate under the administration of the empire, of characters I came to love and hold close.

Before that happened, the news broke that Imperial Commando 2 would be your last Star Wars novel. That came with a bit of a sting, knowing that the adventure and story of Clan Skirata would soon come to a close (not including what hints and frays you including in the Legacy of the Force novels, yours of which being the only ones I read.)

However, I looked at the bright side and figured, there's still two more books to go, it'll be a good ride out.

I just finished 501st last night, and upon closing the book, I searched online to search for the estimated release date of Imperial Commando 2, only to take an ultimate gut shot in finding that it'd been cancelled, over such a ridiculous reason.

I don't care what the writers of The Clone Wars show say or want to depict. A pacifist Mandalorian people is ridiculous, needless to say. It doesn't matter what canon they try to retcon. The Mandalorians were the most interesting part of Star Wars to me, and you (among others) brought them to life. You gave them a history, a culture, and an identity. Your characters were realized as ancillary material (Read: toys), your work made the impact.

Let me get to the point. I saw your blog post. You said that in IC2, all the main characters would have escaped into ba'slan shev'la.

Okay, fine. But that's not enough to put my questions to rest. Where do they go if they leave Kyrimorut? What happens between Kal and Ny? Mij and Uthan? The Nulls and Omega Squad, and their wives? Vau and Mird? Would Scout, Kina Ha, and Zey have made it to Djinn Altis? What would Darman do upon finally securing Kad in his c ustody and care? Given that he was alive in the Legacy era, is Jaing the only one with cured accelerated aging? What makes Bardan go under the name Gotab? How does Clan Skirata manage their escape? What becomes of the new Death Watch, and Fenn Shysa's resistance? Would anyone close die? What happens to all these people?

I don't expect you to answer each and every one of those questions, but I do hope you see the point I'm trying to make. With IC2 cancelled, all of these questions and more are left hanging. I'm sure I'm not the only one that wants to know: How does it all end?

The clarification I'm requesting is as such: I'm a writer too. I know the process of writing a story, so I know that somewhere, in your mind, on a pad, or in a saved document file, you have the details jotted down.

An outline. What were you planning to do with that story? What were your ambitions and plans for these characters? Where would they have ended up? A simple outline, akin to the captions at the end of a movie spelling out the fate of its characters, would suffice in lieu of the actual IC2 that now won't ever happen.

Please take this into consideration with the thought that, I'm not the only one wondering, and realize that a simple throw away sentence saying "they escape into ba'slan shev'la" can't possibly quell the thirst to know.

I love your stories. I learned a good amount of lessons from the five you published. The characters feel like close relatives and friends to me. I need to know their fates.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I look forward to your response.

  • Thanks for posting that. Traviss has defiantly been my favorite SW author for some time and it's nice to see that she's approachable and whatnot.--CHU Dhampy 15:17, December 10, 2009 (UTC)
  • After finishing 501st, I went on this website for details and then went on her (Traviss's)

blog. My heart almost blew out. I was cursing unbelievably; a pacifist Mando'ade?! I don't care what those writers at LucasArts were thinking but its wrong. But now that the details are in and that they might salvage all this "small groups" stuff, it might play out good. But nonetheless they lost an amazing writer. I can't believe they decided to just drop this like that, forget your TV show, you have hella fans who have seen the Mandos as one thing: the truest fighting species/group/whatever in the whole galaxy. --Dtlwarrior 00:56, March 24, 2010 (UTC)

Blasted Pacifism Edit

Isn't it possible that these Pacifistic "Mandalorians" are fust a Splinter Group like the Death Watch was/is? FettClone1 21:01, December 18, 2009 (UTC)

It could be, but the range of retcon described is much larger than that. However we dont fully know at this point. JediShifty 03:13, December 19, 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps the Pacifistic Mandalorians is why the Death Watch was formed, because those that formed the Death Watch had formed it to retain their "Aggressive" Past. Sort of how from time to time Klingons in Star Trek would have small groups spring up that wants to go back to the War Fearing Society they once were. To me, the Death Watch would be those that wants to maintain, what they perceive as the true meaning of Mandalorians and continue to fight. Although the Retcon into being a primarily Pacifistic Society does make sense, considering all of the lies certain entities had played that caused the Mandalorians to go to war.Altyrell 03:26, December 19, 2009 (UTC)

Well then where would the True Mandalorians, that Jango and Jaster led, fit into all of that. They were the ones that were directly at odds with the Death Watch. VhettSkirata Mando'ade 04:06, December 19, 2009 (UTC) P.S. I changed accounts

  • The Death Watch was very possibly a lash out/reaction to the pacifist culture invading the mandalorians. But Jango and the other True Mandalorians wanted to be nether rulers or to be ruled, let the rest of the galaxy burn! They where the greatest warriors for hire, that was the culture they wanted to leave for their children, not genocidal maniacs or coward pacifists.Ordofett 03:10, October 17, 2010 (UTC)

Known Mando'ade Edit

Another source Edit

The Mandalorians are mentioned in A Hunter's Fate: Greedo's Tale. On page 30 (if you're reading from Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina) there is the sentence "This one wore the armor of the extinct Ithulan race-Greedo knew the warlike Ithulls had been wiped out hundreds of years ago, their civilization crushed and annihilated by another, equally warlike race, the Mandalore". That's all I have for now. D.Kaiser 07:42, August 12, 2010 (UTC)

That damn quote Edit

Is there any chance we can find a new quote? I can't read that one without my mind being filled with anger at the utter BS contained within. I know it's a canon quote and it's sourced, but it just annoys me, as Mandalorians were never worth comparing to the Jedi or Sith, they were used as tools and beaten up by both over and over again. Having Vergere do it is even more annoying.. Argh, sorry. I just can't believe anyone would compare the Mandalorians to the vastly more important Jedi and Sith. I am disappoint. Holocron Greatholocron.jpg (Complain) 04:32, September 9, 2010 (UTC)

  • The Jedi and Sith are no more important than the Mandalorians. One, the other, or both, are simply more appealing to certain fans. Others find the Mandalorians to be more interesting than the Sith or Jedi, and none would be incorrect; it's a matter or personal preference. Thus, I believe that the quote should remain, as without stating any of the three groups to be superior, it illustrates the ability of any individual from any species to be a Mandalorian, states their general place in galactic affairs as neither a friend of the Jedi, nor an ever-present ally of the Sith, mentions how the culture evolved from war-worshipers to mercenaries, and even the final sentence ("You might begin to understand them one day.") gives an interesting lead in to the article itself, inviting the reader to learn about the Mandalorians and, possibly, come to understand them. Bella'Mia 04:44, September 9, 2010 (UTC)
    • I suppose so. I finished reading Sacrifice some time ago and I just couldn't get over the inclusion of the Mandalorians even though they played no real part in the plot. The author added so many one-liners about them, to the point where I wished they didn't exist. The previous post was more of a rant than an actual suggestion, I'm sick of them at the moment, the KotOR Mandalorians were awesome, I loved them when I played the game. They bragged about genocide and made it clear that they weren't the good guys, the ones written by Traviss change all of that and turn them into some sort of infallible super-culture. I was also annoyed with the quote because of who said it and in what context it was said in. I suppose I've just had enough of Mandalorians, to me they're starting to get in the way and it's irriting. I can see why some people would prefer them, and because it's just my opinion the quote should stay. Doesn't mean I like it. Holocron Greatholocron.jpg (Complain) 05:06, September 9, 2010 (UTC)

  • Mandalorians are the greatest warriors for hire. Never to be ruled by anyone, especially some force slinging scum! There is a reason why Ulic Qel-Droma made an deal with Mandalore, he was afraid of their power, or else he would have destroyed them, which Sith law would require. The destruction of anyone who stands in your path.Ordofett 23:20, October 16, 2010 (UTC)

Change from New Mandalorians to gov in LOTF Edit

Okay, has it been stated somwhere about the change from the New Mandalorians government in the Clone Wars to the government in LOTF? Ive searched the Mando page for this, and found nothing. Anyone?Galen Starkiller Marek 03:32, October 16, 2010 (UTC)

  • I ask not out of curiosity (sp?), but out of respect for the goodness of the page. Right now it looks like they went from peace-loving to nomads, bounty hunters and farmes over night.Galen Starkiller Marek 03:35, October 16, 2010 (UTC)
    • The New Mandalorian government and the New Mandalorians as a whole are a separate entity from the other Mandalorians. The other non-"New" Mandos have been doing things their own way for as long as they always have, while the New Mandos split off to form their own society. For all we know, they may still be doing their own thing off in the desert by the LOTF time period. Bella'Mia 19:52, October 16, 2010 (UTC)
  • Right, they are a totally different faction.Ordofett 22:37, October 16, 2010 (UTC)
  • But I don't think the new mandos survived till LOTFOrdofett 03:22, October 17, 2010 (UTC)

Kreia's Prophesy Edit

is it possible that Kreia's Prophesy refers to boba fett?, I'm not sure if the exact words are used, but he is described as being broken, in a few ways before, and was believed to have died at the battle of Skirmish or carkoon, in which he battled against Luke Skywalker. ot coudl equally applied to Jango fett too, as he was deeply affected after the loss of the true mandalorians. he was also both believed to be the last mandalorian and was killed in battle against the jedi, at the battle of geonosis.

just a thought

Swordsquirrel 18:57, January 11, 2011 (UTC)

I've always thought the same thing myself. 114.76.192.22 01:33, June 22, 2011 (UTC)

I believe it refers to Jango Fett, as The game was released in 2004, before even Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and Any of the Republic Commando Materials, or anything about the Mandalorians other than the Marvel Star Wars comics featuring Fenn Shysa. In fact, the way it's worded makes it nearly explicit that it's Jango Fett, in everything but using his name. This Prophesied end section I feel should be removed entirely or be taken out of the history section, as it's really not part of the history at all, just something Kreia says at the end of a game that was clearly meant to be about Jango Fett, which was then contradicted by almost every Source on the Mandalorians since.~~ Unsigned comment by 68.227.141.238 (talk • contribs).

  • Kreia's prophesy on the Mandalorians' end is most likely an allusion to Jango Fett. However, nothing has confirmed that Jango Fett is explicitly to whom Kreia is referring. Therefore we cannot add that to the article, as it would be fan supposition. However, due to Kreia's own notable nature, her prophesy of the Mandalorians' end is also notable as a potential one day finale to their history. The way it is currently phrased allows for the prophesy's inclusion, without naming any specific individual, or even arbitrarily declaring the prophesy true or untrue. Bella'Mia 01:52, January 18, 2012 (UTC)

Mandalorian Jedi? Edit

I've been wondering and this could be added to the article. Isnt it possible that a mandalorian could potentially be force sensitive? Also are the mandalorians a coalition of various species but we mostly see just human mandalorians. Unsigned comment by 166.137.8.133 (talk • contribs).

  • 1) Pure speculation unless some source states this, so cannot be added into the article without confirmation. 2) The first sentence in the article: "The Mandalorians—known in Mando'a as the Mando'ade, or "Children of Mandalore"—were a nomadic group of clan-based people consisting of members from multiple species and multiple genders, all bound by a common culture." 3) Sign your posts by typing four tildes (~~~~) (; 3–Tm_T (Talk) 07:34, February 20, 2011 (UTC)
    • There are two known Force Sensitive Mandos, Bardan Jusik and Antos Wyrick. Bardan was an ex-Jedi and Antos didn't know of his sensitivity until the last few moments of his life. But there wouldn't be any Mandalorian Jedi as they have to follow the six actions before any other morals such as the Jedi code. User:SarimThiri-Talk page 08:17, February 20, 2011 (UTC)
