Canon Edit

Why is Minch non-canon? Source? Chack Jadson 13:53, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

  • The story he appears in involves an uprising of Dark Jedi on Bpfassh several centuries before the Clone Wars, while other sources place that event during the Clone Wars. Also, The New Essential Guide to Alien Species mentions only three known members of Yoda's species: Minch would be a fourth. I don't think there's anything requiring there to be only one uprising on Bpfassh ever, or for NEGAS to get the count of known Yoda-oids exactly right if Minch's adventures were somehow forgotten, but signs point to "non-canon" so far. —Silly Dan (talk) 14:21, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
    • I think the intended implication in the story was that Minch is Yoda's real name, and this is a story from his youth. (Especially given the BTS info on Yoda's original name being Minch). However, in light of those facts and it's placement in Star Wars Tales #16, I agree: It's non-canon. MaclimesZero 17:36, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
      • Chee said so here:[1]. So I guess the ambiguity label must be exchanged for a non-canon label.DarthMRN 10:15, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Merge Edit

Put me down for keeping these (Minch and Yoda) as separate articles for the time being, given the low number of members of this species Of course, if there's something that confirms that one is the other, then have at it... DAWUSS 22:51, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Agreed. A) This information would just get lost in the Yoda article. B) The canon status of this story is questionable as it is.--Valin Kenobi 06:45, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
    • C) If canon, it's entirely possible there was a separate member of the unknown tridactyl species named Minch who underwent a similar experience to Yoda, and that Dark Horse's page is mistaken or not telling the whole story. jSarek 09:10, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
      • See the talk page of the Heart of Darkness article for a discussion outlining why Yoda and Minch are (at least for the moment) different characters [[2]].DarthMRN 12:34, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

im going to go ahead and add the imformation about him from the unknown tridactyl species page. User:Kami-Sama

Similarity to Yiddish "mensch" Edit

The article says: "'Minch' is similar to the Yiddish word 'mensch,' meaning a kind soul." This is just BS. Yiddish is a german dialect originally spoken by the Ashkenazi jews in Germany and Eastern Europe. The German word "Mensch" (it's written in capitals as every German noun is) would translate as "human" or "man" and has - even in Yiddish - nothing to do with "a kind soul". Who came up with that?

  • I don't know who came up with it, but he's sort of right. According to my (yiddish speaknig) 'mensch' is used as 'good person' even though it litterally means 'human' like in german. I'm restoring the that peice. And by the way yiddish is not a german dialect per se, it has some polish in it and some hebrew and it is written with hebrew letters. also please sign your comments with four tildes Nadav 10:17, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

  • Two different stories. This one is from the Tales comic series, so it's not known whether it's even canon, but either way it's about a different being who happened to have done something similar to what Yoda did later (Minch's story also takes place long before Yoda's, which is said to have been during the Clone Wars). - Lord Hydronium 07:48, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Canon...again Edit

Is Minch still ambig-canon? Yoda was retconned to have never been to Dagobah before his exile, but the tree was still imbued with dark side energy from a Bpfasshi master. Minch fought a Bpfasshi master whose blood seeped into the tree. Seems like this is a retcon of a canonical event. Dr.Kermit(Babble here) 03:15, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Opening paragraph Edit

I'm sorry, but as this is going to be featured very soon, I feel the opening sentence has an issue that needs to be addressed. He is described as an "unnamed tridactyl species." Wasn't it decided some time ago to not refer to members of the species as such? Forgive me if this has been addressed already, but I just wanted to make sure.--Dr. Kermit(Complain.) 16:06, June 26, 2010 (UTC)

Minch figure questions, answering they need Edit

Hello, wasn't Yoda at least 196 years old by 700 BBY? As such he lived during the time this story took place. It was stated that by 796 BBY, Yoda had achieved the rank of Jedi Master and trained his first apprentice. Could he have known Minch or about his story? --Larry Young 14:06, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
