NameEdit

I've been clued in to where JJ and company came up with the name for Poe Dameron. Would that tidbit be worth adding to the "Behind the Scenes" section of this page? --Jtrentadams (talk) 17:03, December 12, 2014 (UTC)

  • Only if you can add a reference to a verifiable and legitimate source. Otherwise it's just a rumor, and can't be added. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 17:16, December 12, 2014 (UTC)
    • Does this count as a verifiable source: http://www.starwarsunderworld.com/2015/01/the-inspiration-behind-poe-damerons.html ? --Jtrentadams (talk) 19:10, February 9, 2015 (UTC)
      • Technically, I would still call this unconfirmed speculation—I think the issue here is, who is J. Trent Adams, and how reliable is his word? That being said, I think you could still include it in the BTS with proper attribution and clearly saying that this information is "According to the fan site Star Wars Underworld." Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 19:14, February 9, 2015 (UTC)
      • Forgive me for my oversight, as it seems you are, in fact, J. Trent Adams. I see that D.C. Barns apparently took you along with him for his cameo in the film, and that you also scored an appearance in the film. That's great, and that's something we would love to document on Wookieepedia. If you can provide us proper attribution for that, we can go ahead and create an article for you. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 19:22, February 9, 2015 (UTC)
      • Nice sleuthing! And I'd be happy to provide corroborating information (insofar as my NDA with Disney/Bad Robot allows). Let me know how to contact you (or you can hunt me down via Google). --Jtrentadams (talk) 19:43, February 9, 2015 (UTC)
      • The thread went cold, but here's more evidence for you: Official Star Wars Video (read the names) --Jtrentadams (talk) 15:53, April 18, 2015 (UTC)

The article mentions his first appearance is in "Moving Target" which takes place roughly 33 years before "The Force Awakens". With the release of "shattered empire" and the introduction of a new character named Dameron, it's more likely that Leia is talking about the Rebel soldier Dameron from shattered empire than Poe. --189.217.139.151 20:40, September 26, 2015 (UTC)Dany B

Another thing about the name. It sounds like it came from the character from the 1997 film Con Air name Cameron Poe, portrayed by Nicolas Cage. Someone should find a source about that possible inspiration for the name as well. BattleshipMan (talk) 03:43, October 20, 2015 (UTC)

Affiliation to the New Republic Edit

A new Spanish synopsis for "Before the Awakening" suggests that Poe was a pilot serving the Republic before the events of The Force Awakens. It is revealed in Amazon website. Here is the link: http: //www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/841654347X It says: “Before they united in the fight against evil, Rey, Poe and Finn led very different lives. Rey was a lone scavenger on the desert planet of Jakku. Poe was a pilot for the Republic. And Finn was only FN-2187, a promising but reluctant stormtrooper. These are their stories. This is what happened before the Awakening.” --AnilSerifoglu (talk) 15:44, October 30, 2015 (UTC)AnilSerifoglu

AgeEdit

How was he born 2 years after the Battle of Endor if his parents talk about him in Shattered Empire 98.167.125.119 00:20, December 25, 2015 (UTC)

Edit: Nevermind, I see it was before and not after.

SexualityEdit

I've seen a lot of speculation that Poe is gay. Does this warrant a mention in the "Behind the Scenes" section?24.250.52.28 14:22, December 31, 2015 (UTC)

Hopefully the cast and crew will acknowledge the speculation so we can mention it, I mean there are a few journalist blog posts but the Internet loves to ship everyone. --Alientraveller (talk) 14:39, December 31, 2015 (UTC)
Well apparently John Boyega's acknowledgment of the theory isn't good enough, and neither are all the articles flying around. I mean, Poe being gay is a lot more notable than "Traitor Stormtrooper is called TR-8R lol lol lol" but I digress. --Alientraveller (talk) 19:09, January 7, 2016 (UTC)
Although I disagree that the speculation is more notable than the TR-8R meme, given that TR-8R became so popular it warranted an official news article on StarWars.com, I do think there's a way to work in the speculation about Poe's sexuality. The best way to do it is to reframe the paragraph. In your paragraph, you led with the speculation. That meant that the focus of the paragraph was about the speculation. Instead, you should lead with how Isaac portrayed the character. Find other things he talked about too, in terms of how he prepared for the role and how he played the part. As part of that, talk about what he said on Ellen, and then mention in passing how it—as well as how Isaac portrayed Poe, such as the lip bite—has led to commentary from notable media outlets like Salon that Poe could be gay. I'm not sure if this is totally in line with existing policies, but if you're going to mention it, this is the way to do it. It keeps the cultural and media commentary to a minimum. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 19:34, January 7, 2016 (UTC)
Well, only because an article on TR-8R on the official website is far less likely to attract bigots than one on gueer SW characters. But thanks for the critique, might have another crack or leave some links for someone smarter to write up. --Alientraveller (talk) 20:11, January 7, 2016 (UTC)
I hope this is fine, it emphasises more what Isaac actually said. It also adds what he said about JJ figuring out a way to keep Poe around in a worthwhile manner that also added to the speculation. --Alientraveller (talk) 20:58, January 8, 2016 (UTC)
I made a tweak and I removed the last sentence about John Boyega (it's not relevant, and "not canon" is misleading) but other than that I think that's fine. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 21:02, January 8, 2016 (UTC)
Hmm, you sure? "Oscar wishes it was though, it's all in his head. It's a brotherly love, a bromance, that's for sure." Sounds like confirmation Isaac was playing him as gay, but guess we can wait until he answers the question. Someone's bound to when Apocalypse comes out (no pun intended). --Alientraveller (talk) 21:12, January 8, 2016 (UTC)

Past TenseEdit

Why is the entire article apparently written in the past tense? Unless I am severely mistaken did he not survive the attack on Starkiller base? --Fofalus (talk) 19:53, January 28, 2016 (UTC)

  • All Wookieepedia articles are written in the past tense because Star Wars takes place "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away." - Brandon Rhea(talk) 19:56, January 28, 2016 (UTC)

3.3 Factual correction Edit

I believe the correct quote as spoken in the movie is:

"Go straight at 'em. Don't let these thugs scare you." ―Poe Dameron

From the Battle of Crait and Escape section: "Once safe, Poe met Rey again, and took the opportunity to introduce himself to the last Jedi, possibly hinting his feelings to her."

ReyEdit

If Poe saying to Rey that he knows who she is enough to 'possibly hint his feelings to her', then surely "Dameron declined, stating that his jacket suited Finn better" in the Takodana section should be followed by "...possibly hinting his feelings to him." Unsigned comment by 24.87.137.231 (talk • contribs).

  • I removed that part --Lewisr (talk) 10:51, December 22, 2017 (UTC)
