Naming
Edit
- The The Essential Guide to Droids refers to this series as "agromech" numerous times because this series was not designed to perform as an astromech in its primary role.--Eion 02:15, 7 Nov 2005 (UTC)
- Still, it was an astromech droid. Cmdr. J. Nebulax 23:34, 7 Nov 2005 (UTC)
- With heavy modifications, yes. But it was not its primary, not its designated function. It'd be like turning a VW beetle into a dune buggy. You would not call a stock VW Beatle a "dune buggy" even though it can modified into one. I've added additional sources that use the term "agromech" in reference to the R4 specifically.--Eion 02:35, 8 Nov 2005 (UTC)
- I changed the picture caption to say "astromech/agromech". Cmdr. J. Nebulax 23:09, 8 Nov 2005 (UTC)
- Also should be 'an' R4. Ugluk
- Since when? I was always taught to use "an" before vowels and special occasions, and "r" was never a special occasion. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)

- You're supposed to use "an" before vowel *sounds*. Thus, though "R" is a consonant, it's pronounced "Arr," and so should be preceded by "an." jSarek 02:16, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Then the rules of English are different from what my teacher taught me. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)

- Teachers can be bad about that. You'd be surprised how many teach the wrong rules about possessive "s" following words ending in "s." jSarek 03:12, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well, my teacher taught me the right way with the possesive "s" after another "s". But oh well. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) (Data file)
14:17, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, she got that one right. A lot of teachers teach that you should just use an apostrophe after a word ending in "s," even if the word is singular. jSarek 02:04, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I learned the right way with that. Anyway, this is really getting off topic. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) (Data file)

This seems somewhat word-for-word with the Essential Guide to Droids. Perhaps it needs rewording. Cortle Steeze 20:10, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
- Really? I don't think so. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)

- Here's an idea - since the rest of the article calls it an Astromech Droid, why not move the page to R4 Astromech and include Agromech in parentheses. "The R4-Series Astromech Droid (a.k.a. Agromech Droid)..." --Logan Felipe 15:59, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
Own section for Jedis' R4 units?
Edit
- I came up with an idea. If the R4 units the Jedi Order used are so different compared to the "original" R4, should they be given a section of their own in the article instead of only a couple of sentences? It would clarify the subject, at least in my opinion. And another question: did the Jedi customize original R4s or could they be using some kind of submodel with dome head and more navigating abilities? Logisland 21:35, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
- 1) Not a bad idea, but I'm worried about someone ending up making a section in other droid articles for the slightest of differences. That wouldn't be good. 2) I don't believe anything like that has ever been said. —Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)

- Oh well, okay then. I just thought that the major differences between the Jedi R4 and the original R4 would have deserved a section of their own. But the current situation is fine, too. Logisland 09:30, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I'm not saying that we shouldn't do it, I'm just saying that we shouldn't do it for other articles. —Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)

- I remember reading that R4-P17 did have the lampshade head but was crushed and Anakin rebuilt him/her/it with an R2 series dome and now all R4 units are modified the same way
- R4-P17 has feminine programming, making it a she. Alpha X 14:46, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
- Don't restart old topics. We knew that about R4-P17 already. —Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)

- yeah there should be a seperate article they're completely different esspecially seeing as R2s and R4s are the same beneath the neck and in those jedi R4s they have an R2 head so they're hardly the same. Majoras revenge!!! (talk) 08:36, December 11, 2012 (UTC)Majoras revenge!!!
just my thoughts
Edit
It should be named R4 astromech not for correctness but just for easy categorization think for a moment what if someone had wanted to search for R4 units BUT when they type R4 astromech in the search box do you think it comes up? well it does but as the 3rd result and I definitely think that this article should be top o' the search results, and also why is R4-P series still an astromech? just my thoughts Majoras revenge!!!
