Talk:SP-4 analysis droid

From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.

Is SP-4 the designation of the entire series of droids or the individual in the Jedi Temple?--Darth Oblivion 21:46, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

  • The series and the droid. Confusing, isn't it? Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) 22:05, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
    • It is one of those droid sub-models where each droid has the same name. Pilot (Passenger Area) 16:46, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
      • A very wierd thing to do, don't you think? Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) 18:49, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
        • Yeah. Just imagine how frustrating it would be if you had a whole bunch of SP-4s. Pilot (Passenger Area) 20:51, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
          • Perhaps they have a longer designation, though. Maybe something like "SP-4-6". Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) 21:03, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
            • Probably only if two or more were employed to the same owner. Pilot (Passenger Area) 16:14, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
              • Well it's believed that most droids do have longer designations - I think an old model kit stated much longer names for R2-D2 and C-3PO, and later reference works have alluded to this concept - so it's likely that any droid named "SP-4" would have a longer designation - think of it like a car numberplate, but having to cover an entire galaxy - \\Captain Kwenn// Ahoy! 16:46, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
                  • Yeah, it's very likely that there were many R2-D2s and C-3POs around, especially after the most famous ones became heroes. Just as "Artoo" is a shortened version of "R2-D2", "R2-D2" is probably a shorter version of a longer serial number. Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) 18:12, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
                  • Now I'm just confused again. Pilot (Passenger Area) 19:20, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
                    • What's there to be confused about? Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) 19:53, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
                      • First, you say that maybe there is a longer name to SP-4 when we just explained that there isn't, and then you go on about this thing about R2-D2 and C-3PO having longer names or something like that. Pilot (Passenger Area) 20:27, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
                        • No one explained that there wasn't a longer name to SP-4 units. And in a Galaxy where the possibilities of having more than two droids with the same name are very high, they would probably have longer serial numbers to be identified from the other. [edit] shouldn't this be categorized as a Class One droid?

Based on the New Essential Guide to Droids, this and the JN-66 were both listed as Class One droids.
