Notability[]

Does the fact that the hunter is mentioned in reference material not negate the notability policy here? The scope of the character is beyond the "six original films" that the policy describes. RattsT (talk) 14:51, June 22, 2020 (UTC)

  • From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back will likely provide more details on this character, so I say we wait until then. We had a similar situation with CT-0292, who was shown on The Clone Wars: Season Seven poster prior to release, where a conjectural title was given. • I'm not sure how that is similar to this situation. The policy says 'Subjects from the six original films and the Star Wars: The Clone Wars film and television series that received official names in the Legends continuity shall not be given Canon articles until they receive official names in Canon source material.' The bounty hunter is a subject from one of the six films, and was given an official name in Legends --Lewisr (talk) 15:05, June 22, 2020 (UTC)
      • I take some issue with this policy; in a situation where a character like this were mentioned in a source other than a film, we would create a page. See the numerous Unidentified characters that have been mentioned in novels and comics. The original CT that created this policy was from the early days of canon in which no reference material existed. Nowadays we have sources that explicitly refer to these characters. • I think the intention of the policy was to prevent the creation of /Canon articles on background characters such as Tamizander Rey. The bounty hunter in this case, however, is notable for being the hunter who Han ran into on Ord Mantell. - - -CIS roundel OOM 224 ༼༽{talk}༼༽ 15:16, June 22, 2020 (UTC)
          • Maybe you're right Ratts but then the policy should have been voted on to have been altered or removed. The fact is that the policy still exists. To OOM, I argue that intentions are somewhat irrelevant when they aren't specified in the policy itself. It just says subjects from the films or TCW, not background characters. I disagree that simply being the bounty hunter Han ran into makes him automatically notable, we don't know the exact circumstances surrounding the event. --Lewisr (talk) 15:31, June 22, 2020 (UTC)
            • Alright, I've created a SH thread to discuss this further. RattsT (talk) 16:15, June 22, 2020 (UTC)
