Okay. I seem to remember a Dark Horse comic series by the same name, also chronicling the adventures of R2 and 3PO, but it was much more recent (90's). It also had around 8-10 issues, but was released over the span of only a few months. I think it shared some (but not all) content with the cartoon. I'm pretty sure it included the story of the White Witch (the racing speeder) and the story about R2 leading an astromech rebellion.
