Can anyone shed some light on why KotOR calls things with an actual sit-down seat swoop bikes? There are swoop bikes in the game, but the one aboard the Hawk has more in common with a podracer or landspeeder, and yet it participates in swoop bike races. Ideas? --Fade 12:11, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Dunno, that game seems to be a plethora of crazy crap. --SparqMan 12:40, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • What sort of crazy crap? This is the only thing that I can think of. Well, the cortosis bit I always thought was iffy, but I don't know much about it. *shrug* --Fade 12:43, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Shouldn't the KotOR-era swoops and swoop bikes have separate articles, since they seem to be two different vehicles - with the former having more in common with Podracers than swoop bikes. Perhaps at swoop racer? - Kwenn

[edit] Swoop bike in Episode IV? WTF?!

I don't remember seeing any swoop in Ep IV, only in VI, when the Scout Troops used Swoops on Endor...

IV had a landspeeder. VI had speeder bikes. 62.74.5.144 22:47, 4 Jul 2005 (UTC)
The Special Edition of Episode IV had a swoop bike added to it; it's what startles the ronto in Mos Eisley. 204.212.38.12 09:18, 5 Jul 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Galactic Empire outlawed Podracing?

I thought pod-racing was already illegal at the time of The Phantom Menace...

  • The Empire didn't outlaw until after Revenge of the Sith. -- Riffsyphon1024 02:28, 17 Jul 2005 (UTC)
  • Related question: Would it be fair to describe Swoop as the decendant/replacement for pod racers? - Finlayson 23:58, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
    • Well, there was swoop racing in the KOTOR era, so I don't think it's really a descendant of podracing. RMF 00:07, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
      • OK, but Swoop racing did fill the void when Pod racing was banned. -Finlayson 00:15, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
        • Yeah, as podracing got less popular, swoop racing got more popular, according to HoloNet News [1] -LtNOWIS 00:48, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Altitude

"Several hundred kilometres above a planet's surface?" This would put the swoop bike in a low orbit. Is there a source for this? Lonnyd 12:36, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

  • The Essential Guide says several kilometers, not several hundred kilometers. -LtNOWIS 00:40, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Swoop race suit

A KotOR-era swoop race suit.
A KotOR-era swoop race suit.
In Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic you can see the main character wearing a full body suit in a swoop bike on the Taris circuit. You can see the same suit on an Iridorian mercenary on Manaan, another major swoop racing track in the game. --Jinger 22:51, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] First Appearance

Swoops were first featured, and named, in one of the three Brian Daley Han Solo novels from 1979-1980. I encourage someone to read up and find the exact reference! They're actually good, as Star Wars novels go.
