TIE DroidEdit

In the X-wing books, specifically the three books involving Wraith Squadron, there's a plot by Zsinj using automated Interceptors with suicide-bomb payloads, which fly in conjunction with standard piloted Interceptors, the whole bunch pretending to be Fel's 181st Fighter Squadron. Is it appropriate to include an article about that ship? I ask because I'm new to Wookieepedia.

SafetyEdit

The A-Wings, B-Wings, X-Wings and Y-Wings (along with other ships) are good for combat cause they have four thing that TIE Fighters, TIE Bombers and TIE Interceptors don't have (expect for the TIE Bomber, which have # 1 and 2 on this list).

1. No Life-Support Systems for personal survival . . .

2. No War-Heads for offensive avantages . . .

3. No Shields for a defensive avantages (along with weak armor) . . .

And Finally . . .

4. No Hyperdrive Systems for a quick escape . . .

How in their right mines can those Dumbass Pilots (excuse my languages) feel safe flying those suicidal death traps? Double D 01:45, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

and how many skilled aces does the empire have if most of there pilots are killed in there tinfoil ships and besides the ace pilots are smart enough to get a better ship(Boommer3 23:48, 9 September 2006 (UTC))

  • A fighter ace wouldn't need to worry about getting another ship if they're skilled in piloting a TIE fighter. As for the others, they probably just wanted to serve the Empire in any way they could. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 01:08, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
    • no i meant a better TIE model, and i do agree on that bcuz the pilots were a fanatical bunch im just saying how can someone have skilled pilots if most of ur pilots are killed, the good pilots would be sent to train other pilots meaning that u would only have ur cruddy pilots up front(Boommer3 17:06, 10 September 2006 (UTC))
      • Remember that, originally, the Empire was only facing pirates and smugglers. The Alliance to Restore the Republic came later, which was what caused Sienar to create more TIE variants. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 19:15, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
        • ok that was wat most of there ships were doing but remember that the empire was large and still had civil wars to worry about so there were ships being sent out to fight on the front line and i remember that the empires pilots are some of the best ever but they got killed by the ship load but i guess that is just another reason why the empire was over-thrown dont care about individuals or even whole species, just the wealthy humans(Boommer3 23:15, 29 September 2006 (UTC))
          • I suppose it's sort of like that. Palpatine was a Sith, and a very overconfident one, at that. After all, he probably thought he would live and rule his Empire for thousands of years. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) Imperial Emblem 00:33, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
            • Actually, I think having "no life support" is safer than having a pressurized cockpit. Remember that the TIE pilots still had high-tech survival suits which were absolutely capable of sustaining their life in deep space for an extended period of time. If their TIE was going to explode, they could just jump out of the fighter and wait to be picked up by a rescue shuttle. They'd even be capable to continue flying and fighting if the cockpit is damaged and torn half-apart. An X-Wing pilot on the other hand would simply die instantly from depressurization... -- Tulon 14:30 13.07.2007

I read somewhere TIE Fighters weren't equiped with shields as the emperor believed it would make the pilots fight harder. - JC

Image... Edit

The first image in the article that shows a 'typical TIE cockpit' or whatever. That doesn't look much like a TIE cockpit to me. Unit 8311 18:46, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

  • I think it's meant to be an interceptor cockpit. The Rogue Squadron Handbook includes it on the page detailing both the standard TIE and the interceptor, and the exterior interceptor image on that page has a red-hued cockpit - \\Captain Kwenn// Ahoy! 18:50, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Interceptor vs Basic TIE Edit

It looks for this page that the formal name for both the interceptor and basic TIE is TIE/In Starfighter. Is this accurate? How can both ships have the same name?Unsigned comment by 75.86.230.226 (talk • contribs).

  • They don't. The TIE Fighter has the designation TIE/ln (that's a lowercase "L"), while the Interceptor has the designation of TIE/In (that's an uppercase "i"); they look the same in sans-serif fonts like the ones used here. Yes, having such similar designations is a ridiculously bad idea, and I am not alone in hoping that newer official works about the Interceptor will have the offending letter in its designation changed to a lowercase "i" to match the system used by other TIE models. jSarek 01:51, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Imperial troop transport should be added to the list Edit

Basically self-explanatory. Also, the TIE Subfighter doesn't come up in te TIE Starfighter Variants Box that comes up in TIE articles.

What happened to the TIE podracer?

Unidentified TIE variantEdit

I found this fighter when I was watching some videos on Youtube for the attack on Death Star for the game Star Wars: X-wing and I found these starfighters which do not have a shield or do not seem to have a hyperdrive and they look very similar with TIE Advanced x1. Here is the link to the photo I can find of it.

Gallery Edit

Can we please add a gallery or something? I want to copy the pictures of all the fighters in the series, because I keep forgetting what the TIE Avenger looks like, plus this feels like it should have a gallery. --Pluto 2 (My Sith name is Darth Nightmaricus) 21:03, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

Realism changes Edit

In the behind the scenes bit i would think there should be a couple changes, number one, when it talks about them being able to resist space debris because they have particle shields, the TIE defender specifically does not have particle shields, and the hulls are made of titanium, which 'helps' defend against micrometeoroids. Second, the part about them not suffering reduced speed when in darkness. Have you ever heard of batteries?
