Talk:TIE boarding craft

From Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki.

I don't recall ever seeing the TIE boarding craft in Battlefront II.

That is, bar none, the weakest canonical reference I have ever seen. Awesome. I'm not being sarcastic, that is awesome. Who has time to determine details like that? MaulMachine 19:08, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
        • The TIE Boarding Craft interior appearance in ANH has been retconned in Creating the Worlds of Star Wars: 365 Days, day 331: "The bluescreen in the doorway is interesting -we never see beyond that door in A New Hope; it's the one the stormtroopers come through. In Revenge of the Sith, we find out that the ship's hangar is on the other side. When Obi-Wan arrives, he come through that door, and you can see General Grievous's starfighter, which he's commandeered, in the background." - NobodyExpectsTheSpanishInquisition
          • If you're suggesting that the TIE boarding craft is not in Episode IV, you're wrong. The Incredible Cross-Sections clearly shows that a)there is no outer room on Tantive IV that could have been mistaken for the TIE boarding craft and b)there's a landed TIE boarding craft in Devastator's hangar in the same book. • This is from Creating the Worlds of Star Wars: 365 Days: , published in 2005 and written by John Knoll, the VFX Supervisor of ILM. You know, the guys just under Lucas who made the special effects of all the movies. While the use of the TIE Boarding Craft to board the Tantive IV is still canon (off-screen, by the ICS and other sources), the room behind Darth Vader and the stormtroopers has been retconned to be the hangar of the corvette, as seen in ROTS. The ICS deckplan is no longer completely canon.

  • No, that's incorrect. Grievous's starfighter landed in the hangar in the bottom of Tantive IV. Clearly, John Knoll made a simple error because the corridor from the hangar is the same kind of corridor first seen in Episode IV. They are two different corridors, and even Star Wars: Battlefront II shows this. And the ICS Tantive IV deckplan is still completely canon. Fleet Admiral J. • There is no mistake. As stated in the text I posted (with more detail in the Art of ROTS and Making of ROTS books), ILM remade the hallway of the Tantive IV to be exactly the same one of ANH, this was done completely on purpose upon orders of George Lucas. The idea was to enter to the ship by the same place, with a twist: instead of Vader, Obi-Wan. They disregarded the OT ICS deck plan in this point, just like they did the same in AOTC with the Slave I. Movies have an highter canon priority than books and games, please read the canon page. - NobodyExpectsTheSpanishInquisition
      • Do not tell me about canon. Fleet Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) 14:12, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
      • right everyone calm down, nobodyexpects there is no need to inform Jack of canon he has been here alot longer than you, now mistakes are made in canon sources and i belive that this could be one. Jedi Dude 14:14, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
        • Exactly. I regard the deckplans of Tantive IV as canon. And, as we can tell by comparing the Episode III Tantive IV to the Episode IV Tantive IV, we can tell that the ship was modified. So, the TIE boarding craft could still have been docked on the exterior of the ship and the corridor that led to the hangar could now lead to where the TIE boarding craft was. Fleet Admiral J. • Don't we see a dark wall (the interior of the boarding craft?) right behind Vader in ANH? With lit-up buttons and everything? VT-16 11:44, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
          • Yes. Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) 12:14, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
            • Well, that counts as an unidentified appearance, does it not? I've edited in ANH and Battlefront II as appearences, using (First appearance) with ANH and (First identified as TIE boarding craft) with Star Wars 53. I hope that's correct! 82.46.190.172 19:07, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Number of Passengers

I figure that the number of passengers that the boarding craft can carry must be at least 12. In ANH, I counted 11 stormtroopers that board Tantive IV, plus Vader (6 can be seen fighting in the hallway after 2 have already been gunned down; after the group of six has moved on, 3 more are seen loitering in front of the airlock, and 2 enter behind Vader). In Incredible Cross-Sections, 6 Rebel prisoners, plus two R2 units, are being escorted by 6 stormtrooper guards, all of whom have apparently just emerged from the boarding craft behind them. By the way, am I the only person who has a hard time imagining how so many people can fit into a ship that's no bigger than a TIE Bomber?71.145.145.223 04:58, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
