TIE Prototype?
Edit
What's the basis for the TIE prototype in the Force Unleashed Campaign Guide being the same as the TIE starfighter? Previous sources for the TIE starfighter specifically say that it had no shields, no hyperdrive, and no nav comp. It seems that the TIE prototype is listed as having all of these systems. That pretty much makes it a different ship, and it should be separated from this page. DolukTalk 20:26, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
- Because both ships are listed as direct predecessors to the TIE/In. If you want to separate two pages, go ahead, but at least leave a note in both BTS sections, covering the similiarity. Mauser 20:38, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
- The backstory of the TIE Prototype directly contradicts the history of the TIE as listed in Adventure Journal 10 and the Star Wars Sourcebook. TFUCG specifically states that Siennar Fleet Systems built the fighter for the Empire. As no TIEs are seen in the recent movies it is likely that this is more plausible than a fighter being redesigned from a fighter used by the Republic. Beyond which it is simply factually wrong to state that the TIE prototype is functionally the same as any stats listed for the original TIE or T.I.E. fighter. The articles should probably be adjusted to reflect recent canon changes. ABCoLD 02:16, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- There is plenty of evidence the Twin Ion Engine program was in progress long before the Empire came to power (even if full production didn't start until afterward), and there were apparently multiple iterations of the prototype along the way in the design process. We don't need to discount anything at this point. jSarek 02:34, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- I don't want to discount the possibility that such prototypes exist, but do previous sources specifically states that they were the original prototype? If you sincerely wished to stretch the credibility of the source then you could interpret the Force Unleashed Guide as misspelling Republic Fleet Systems as Sienar Fleet Systems. However my main point of contention is that the Prototype TIE is not the T.I.E. Fighter as far as I can identify, as both Adventure Journal 10 and Star Wars Sourcebook. (The T.I.E. is specifically stated to be a short-range, non-hyperspace capable fighter in Adventure Journal 10 for example.) This would make the TIE prototype the original fighter, followed by the T.I.E. followed by etc. etc.ABCoLD 04:06, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
