Talk:Tarkin Doctrine
Back to page
Hope people like the actual Tarkin Doctrine transmission from Tarkin to Palpatine.. it's from the Death Star Technical Manual, if anyone's curious. -Danik Kreldin 22:00, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
- Very interesting. Thank you. Admiral J. Nebulax 00:24, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
- Its interesting, but I find it kind of scary. Imagine if our government(s) started implementing such a doctrine. Darth Vatrir
- Then we'd better form a Rebel Alliance. Of course, I'd fight for the Empire... Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)

- Wookieepedia is multinational, last I checked. If all our respective governments, which would be quite a lot, started implementing the Tarkin Doctrine, it would be civil war without end. Heck, it might even escalate into World War III, which means nuclear war. Darth Vatrir

Contradiction?
Edit
Yeah well, but designs for the Death Star were completed by Episode II already... —Unsigned comment by 84.60.114.102 (talk • contribs).
- Actually, the Death Star designs were a combination of those blueprints and experimental blueprints made by Raith Sienar and Bevel Lemilisk. Lord Vatrir
move
Edit
If Imperial Communiqué #001044.92v is the official name for the doctrine, the page should be moved. User:Bly1993/sig
- Actually, "Tarkin Doctine" is more official, apparently. —Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)

- The Star Wars: Force Commander game manual mentions it as being "originally" designated with the number, logically meaning that the Doctrine was originally contained in that communique and later given a more official name and perhaps expanded. Havac 06:13, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- I realize that, but "Tarkin Doctrine" apparently became the official name. —Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)

- Quite. I was just elaborating on the reason why the numerical designation is not the official name, for the benefit of Bly. Havac 23:59, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. —Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision)

Fair use
Edit
Uh, I hate to say this, but the excerpt template is named "excerpt" for a reason. You cannot make a "Fair Use" copyright claim on a document which you display in full. That is a classic copyright infraction.--85.195.119.14 08:54, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- Would a scan of the communique be more appropriate then, rather than copying the text verbatim? - Cavalier One 09:55, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
- No. You'd still be displaying it in full. 66.159.253.60 05:54, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
- It's a one-page excerpt from the 143-page Imperial Sourcebook. jSarek 06:30, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Quote
Edit
I think the quote "Rule through the fear of force rather than force itself." is better than the current quote. it is more generalised and is the basic idea to the tarkin doctrine, whereas the current quote seems too specific to the death star to work as well. just a thought. Fell out of favor?
Edit
Did the Tarkin doctrine really fall out of favor?
After the first death star was destroyed, the Empire continued to research terror weapons like the Sun Crusher, the 2nd Deathstar, and the cloned emperor's super star destroyer. Even something like the Super Star Destroyer that served as Vader's command ship serve as a symbol of power and force to be feared.
If the Tarkin doctrine really fell out of favor, the Empire wouldn't invest so many resources into rare expensive super weapons, would it? Unclekulikov 21:49, July 26, 2011 (UTC)
Multiple Drafts
Edit
The full text shown on the page was taken from Death Star Technical Companion. It's worded somewhat differently in the original source, Imperial Sourcebook. The section in DSTC claims it was excerpted from Tarkin's journals; however, in some cases, it actually adds sentences and changes meanings. I'd suggest treating them as two drafts of the same document so as to avoid a judgment call on which is the "real" Tarkin Doctrine. - Brynn Alastayr 23:49, January 17, 2012 (UTC)
