History[]

Since it is known that Arden Lyn practiced Teräs Käsi, can't we safely say that it must have originated before/during The First Great Schism (ca. 24,500 BBY, long before the currently stated origin ca. 3,678 BBY)? Can anyone provide reference from a canon text? Loonybin0 11:32, May 10, 2010 (UTC)

Silat Serak[]

Should the Behind the Scenes section mention that Teräs Käsi was based on/ inspired by Silat? Steve Perry mentions it in the interview found in the External Links section (here). 70.17.155.160 02:21, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

  • If you say "Should there be a 'Behind the scenes' section?", then there should be. ;) Cutch 03:11, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Plo Koon[]

Is there a source for the Plo Koon speculation? --SparqMan 03:39, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Mace Windu[]

I remember in the Clone Wars cartoon that Mace Windu destroyed a B2 Battle Droid with a flurry of punches. COuld this mean that he was also a master of Teräs Käsi?

    • i don't think so, lightsaber forms apply to unarmed combat as well, so its likely Mace is just performing some vaapad styled flurrys. Jedi Dude 17:57, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
      • Also, with his ability to sense the 'shatterpoints' (as demonstrated in the novel of the same name) he probably knew exactly where to hit to be the most effective.Tocneppil 01:35, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

I do think that its a possibility. Shatterpoints and technique would only go so far. It would be worth mentioning as a theory, albeit unofficial.

Your right, The Jedi do have their own Martial Arts systems, which is what Mace Windu was using. Though, I don't think it was vapaad. If it were, you woulden't even see his hands move. Vapaad speed is invisible.

Impressive though, I'm glad that you guys aren't as dumb as some of the other people that beleive Mace uses Teras Kasi. A traditional Jedi wouldn't use a fighting art outside his own system. --The truth hurts... 22:05, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Sure they would. Luke and Mara use a blaster sometimes, and just look at Kyle Katarn. And anyway, the fact that Mace uses vaapaad, a radical technique, means he would be willing to use alternate methods.70.174.186.37 01:44, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

  • I wasn't talking about armed combat, especially not with projectile weapons, I was speaking of Martial Arts.

Luke and Mara use a cobbled-together compilation of what little Jedi Martial Arts they know. Kyle also uses a simular system. Vapaad, while a radical technique as you describe it, is also one of the classical Forms of Jedi Martial Arts. Thus, he does fight using techniques only from within his own system. --The truth hurts... 00:51, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Moves - merge?[]

My suggestion is to merge the moves with this article. Their description is very short, so I don't think that there is any point in keeping them in separate articles.Domlith 20:59, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Characters from Masters of Teräs Käsi[]

There are several other characters in Masters of Teräs Käsi besides Arden Lyn, like Luke, Leia, Han and Vader. Not all of them practice Teräs Käsi, of course. But Masters of Teräs Käsi: Prima's Official Hints and Tips outright states that Han Solo ("He's even observed and absorbed some teräs käsi basic during his hours in the galaxy's cantinas.'--JuiceStain Rock on! Epiphone sg-black 21:42, 10 April 2008 (UTC)'") and Hoar ("Hoar left his home world to study the art of teräs käsi under Arden Lyn.") learned some Teräs Käsi moves. So should we add them as practitioners? --Craven 14:36, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

What the??!![]

What the heck does the Swedish word Förräderi have to do with Teräs Käsi? To me, NOTHING, and unless someone comes up with a valid argument to this point in the next few days, I'm gonna remove it.--JuiceStain Rock on! Epiphone sg-black 20:45, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

  • Förräderi is a Teräs Käsi stance. That's what it has to do with Teräs Käsi.96.240.196.107 21:23, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
    • Ah, yea, well...maybe I should've paid attention to the article...yea....um...I feel stipid now.--JuiceStain Rock on! Epiphone sg-black 21:42, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

BTW. "Teräs Käsi" is finnish for "steel hand" (not "hands") and would normally be written without the space between the words as a compound word "teräskäsi". Should at least the plurar/singular conflict be corrected? ("kädet" == "hands")

Source for Teras Kasi users having immunity/resistance to Jedi/Sith mental attacks?[]

This article states in the second sentence of introductory paragraph 2:

In addition, Teräs Käsi taught non-Force-sensitives how to close their minds to Jedi and Sith, thus protecting themselves from mental attacks.

Just curious if anyone can tell me the source of this statement off the top of their head, or even direct me where best to look, because right now I'm not willing to blindly search the 30+ appearances and sources for its origin. It's not in the original West End Games's "Shadows of the Empire Sourcebook," where it was written up as a martial art (without any mention of Jedi/Sith mental attack resistance/immunity). There are also no rules for this aspect of Teräs Käsi in any known West End Games supplemental material, unless I am grossly overlooking something.

The reason I ask is because I am trying to expand the Teräs Käsi conversion in the "Shadows of the Empire Sourcebook" to include this immunity to mental Force attacks, which it does not have.

Wasn't Teras Kasi mentioned in Solo?

Massive Update[]

Massive update; I picked through about a dozen sourcebooks, game guides, and other content for mentions of Teräs Käsi. Any claims about the power of punches, speed, meditation, etc is all sourced to specific stat examples or in game text blocks (usually a game or TTRPG) - detailed explanations are in the source text of the article. Anything to do with the Followers and teaching / training pretty much came from Threats, Heroes, or the Empire sourcebooks. There's some random sourcing here and there that I held over from the old article without verifying - but much of it is in line with what I've been reading. PLEASE NOTE: star wars galaxies DID have a Teräs Käsi class BEFORE it was updated with the NGE (New Game Enhancement) - I included the bit about meditation, but not a lot of the other abilities. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message here or on my prof. Dorian G (talk) 09:04, 12 August 2021 (UTC)

  • Small update, years after the fact. A friend got their hands on some old in-game Star Wars Galaxies text, and was able to verify that the text in the Players Guide to RP a Teras Kasi character is largely based on in-game lore and mission text. The relevent text has been added and sourced.Dorian G (talk) 04:47, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
