Tantive IV Upgrade
Edit
According to the Keeper of the Holocron as referenced in the Tantive IV article, the ship started its life and ended its life as a CR90 corvette. Therefore it cannot have been upgraded. The ship that was seen in the end of Episode III was in fact the Sundered Heart, which was upgraded. I'm changing the article (again) to reflect the cannon. --Nick2253 12:02, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
- I am sorry, had I known that, I would have begrudgingly not done a thing. The Corla Metonae article doesn't reflect this change, someone had better change it before we have a mess on our hands, like someone not paying attention. Zeta1127 of the 89th Legion (talk) 18:43, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
- No worries. But yes, we have a mess on our hands. When GL originally proclaimed that the CR70 corvette in ROTS was the Tantive IV, the huge continuity problem was born. In a section in Star Wars Insider 90, they described the process by which the ship was converted, which actually gives us quite a bit of the Corla Metonae back stary. However, since the Tantive IV is no longer in ROTS, how much of that Insider article is bogus? On the continuity thread, the question has been asked, but Leeland hasn't answered. I think that the safest solution at this time (based on my personal, strict interpretation of Leeland Chee's wording on the continuity thread) is that any references to a ROTS Tantive IV are to be directly replaced by Sundered Heart. Therefore, if a source mentions that the ROTS Tantive IV got a modification, then we say "whoops, it got that a little wrong, and meant to say Sundered Heart got a modification." I know that this isn't the best solution, but we need a solution. What do you think? (Also, if someone has a copy of Insider 90 and could reread that article, that would be a great addition to the conversation. I don't remember what it says exactly and I can't find my copy). --Nick2253 21:40, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
- Just to tack on, this problem affects nearly every article that touches on Tantive IV, the Sundered Heart, and her crew (especially the crew). So I think we need a solution ASAP. --Nick2253 21:45, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
- They retcon things that don't need retconning. Leeland Chee was better off leaving this alone. I don't know how to fix it, I just wanted to get it right, but right is relative. I personally think that Leeland Chee screwed up. Where was this said, the explanation on the Tantive IV article just says that it was a retcon. - Unfortunately (and I agree with you) our job is to accurately chronicle the continuity put forth by LFL and Leeland Chee, not our own. If you read the thread here, and then a post a few before that one, you can see Chee's decision to make Tantive IV a CR90 by the time of ROTS. We also know this from TCW when we see the ship as a CR90. Therefore, the backstory that applied to the Tantive IV cannot be true: it could not have undergone a refit during that time as it was already a CR90 by ROTS. Chee specifically states "this retcon applies to all of the Corellian corvette scenes in ROTS". The assumption that I make from this is that any reference to the ROTS Tantive IV (like in the Insider article) is now a reference to Sundered Heart. (So you know, I'm not trying to hide that this is my personal assumption; I'm no Leeland Chee, but I feel we have to make some assumptions in order to accurately tell the story). --Nick2253 23:01, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
- Now I understand, TCW is causing this. That explains a lot. They are letting TCW rewrite things. Zeta1127 of the 89th Legion (talk) 01:51, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
- That still leaves the question: what are we going to do? While this article is the least likely place to have this discussion, it still needs to be had, and we need a solution. --Nick2253 07:06, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
