Are the lava cannons really superior? They heal over time, but repairs on a laser cannon might be quicker. It says they don't need a power source, but being a living organism it would still need to obtain food of some kind. It still has to return to a ship or astroid field to restock. Also, while blasters only need a bit of gas and a power cell, lava cannons would at least require the mass used to be either in solid or liquid form in a large enough quantity to be effective limiting shots.

"Plasma cannon" redirects here. The Zann Consortium was using plasma cannons decades before the Yuuzhan Vong showed up. What of those conventional plasma cannons that don't regenerate and require power? Where can I find more information on them?
