Culture
Edit
Tallaan's population was very independent-minded, and treated neighboring nobles and others with inherited titles with a polite courtesy at best. They also took offense to the suggestion that their world gained its wealth solely due to its position on intercepting shipping lanes, preferring to credit their world's success on its peoples' strong work ethic.
Government
Edit
Tallaan's government consisted of the Trade Commission, a council which elected one of its own as First Executive to lead the planet. While on paper the council members represented the people of their electorate, they most often spent their time and energies seeing to the needs of the various corporate interests in their respective communities. The Ministry of Orbital Commerce was widely considered the most powerful administration on Tallaan due to it overseeing the orbital stations, shipyards, and the various commercial transactions associated with them, such as the massive portion of Tallaan's dockyards leased by the Thyferran government to inspect transported bacta, which by law could not be done in Thyferran space.
Military
Edit
As the most powerful and strategically-placed system in the Freeworlds, Tallaan accordingly had the largest planetary military in the sector, and indeed had one of the largest planetary navies in the entire Colonies Region. and contributed the largest number of vessels and units to the Freeworlds Common Navy. During the height of the New Order it consisted of twelve Tapani-class assault frigates and two Tapani-class carriers, each with a standard complement of 40 Manta-class assault starfighters. Backing these up were numerous smaller vessels including Carrack-class light cruisers, and corvettes. Its starfighter fleet also included the TIE/ln starfighters, GAT-12 Skipray Blastboats, Z-95 Headhunters, and BTL Y-wing starfighters.
History
Edit
In 4,000 BBY the Tallaani Shipyards were established in orbit around the planet. Tallaan would remain a prime manufacturer of starships throughout the centuries of Republic rule and retained its facilities during the reign of Emperor Palpatine.
After the destruction of the first Death Star in 0 ABY, the New Order Progressive reported that Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin and his staff died in a shuttle accident at the Shipyards here, rather than over Yavin.
Tallaan was also the home to the 1st Tapani Assault Battlegroup.
The planet was not attacked by the Yuuzhan Vong during their invasion, and, following the First Battle of Coruscant, New Republic Admiral Garm Bel Iblis made his headquarters there, protecting the sector while operating independently until a decisive engagement at Ebaq 9.
Ships from Tallaan were used in various engagements leading up to the end of the Yuuzhan Vong War, particularly around the time of the Liberation of Coruscant.
In 40 ABY, Tallaan was developing and manufacturing warships for the Bothan government, to be used in the Confederation's war against the Galactic Alliance. During the course of the war, Tallaan, along with the rest of the Tapani Sector, joined the Confederation.
