The Tandankin monument was a tall tower respected by the Tandankin citizenry as their greatest monument. Wedge Antilles, unaware of its status, shot it down during the Battle of Tandankin in order to destroy a line of TIE/ln starfighters parked near it. The people of Tandankin were furious with Antilles until Luke Skywalker gave a speech reminding them of Antilles's accomplishments and good intentions, and stating that the monument was a small price to pay for freedom from the Galactic Empire.
