Lord Tarnis was a Human Sith Lord of the Sith Empire. He was the son of Darth Angral, the infamous leader of Sith forces during the Sacking of Coruscant.

BiographyEdit

At some point following his elevation to the rank of Sith Lord he was assigned by his father to infiltrate the Galactic Republic's Superweapon project during the Cold War as a scientist, using the alias "Doctor Eli Tarnis".^[1]

He worked for the Republic as the lead researcher for their Planet Prison project and ultimately succeeded in constructing the weapon. Hoping to acquire a further advantage for the Sith he hired operatives from the criminal Migrant Merchants' Guild and Black Sun to steal classified data on all the Republic's other superweapon projects so he could transmit it to his father who could then move in to seize control of said projects. He then stole the Planet Prison and staged his kidnapping by Black Sun so as to escape the Republic.^[1]

With the Planet Prison in hand he set out for the ruins of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and deployed the weapon in a bid to force the Republic to surrender to the Sith. Unfortunately for him the Jedi and Republic uncovered his duplicity and sent a Jedi Knight to stop him. The Knight fought their way through the Imperial forces searching the Temple for an astrogation computer, finally finding the Sith amid the ruins.

The Jedi found Tarnis in the middle of a conversation with his father Darth Angral and Angral's apprentices, Sadic, Praven, and Nefarid. The Knight implored Tarnis to surrender, but Tarnis refused and the two began to duel. The Jedi struck down Tarnis in front of Angral and his apprentices, earning the hatred of the Sith Lord and causing Angral to embark on a personal vendetta against the Jedi. Despite the Sith's threats, the Knight deactivated the Planet Prison and saved Coruscant.

Behind the scenesEdit

Tarnis appears in the BioWare MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic as a major part of the Jedi Knight class storyline. He appears first in his doctor persona, and is later the target of a series of missions. The Knight pursues the doctor across several areas of Coruscant, at first to rescue him from kidnappers and later to defeat the Sith Lord after his identity is revealed. Tarnis is killed by the player in the Jedi Temple, regardless of the player's choices.
