This ambush on the Tatooine spaceport Mos Eisley occurred six monthes after the Battle of Yavin. For an unspecified reason, the Galactic Empire deployed detachments of TIE Bombers and Viper probe droids to Tatooine to bomb the spaceport and the surrounding areas.

Fortunately for the people of Mos Eisley, the attack began while members of the elite Rebel starfighter group Rogue Squadron were taking an off duty morning run through the infamous Beggar's Canyon outside of Mos Eisley. The X-wings of the fighter squad provided support for the homesteads and Jawas under Imperial fire. The team then made a run through Mos Eisley, destroying the six TIE bombers before the city was destroyed.

Rogue Squadron discovered viper probe droids opening fire on a number of homesteads. As this was unexpected, one member of the squadron was shot down, but he survived the crashlanding. Rogue group destroyed most of the probe droids and dewback patrols in the area. A six fighter squadron of TIE Bombers then began a bombing run on Mos Eisley, but all six were shot down.

After most of the ambush force was destroyed, Skywalker was convinced that the newly formed Rogue Squadron would be making a name for itself. Shortly afterward, Rogue Squadron was assigned to Barkhesh.
