The Tavya-class armored picket was a heavy starfighter constructed by Hoersch-Kessel Drive, Inc. and used by the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars.

CharacteristicsEdit

In contrast to the large capital ships created by HKD for the Trade Federation, the Tavya-class was a small, fast scout, standing in a tradition that stretched back to the Delaya-class courier of four thousand years earlier, and also embodied by the contemporary Seltaya-class fast courier. Like both those ships, the Tavya-class took its class-name from a planet ending in "-a"; in this case, Tavya in the Tapani sector.

The Tavya-class carried a single pilot, and was well-armed with energy and missile weapons, including a turret-mounted laser cannon. An additional proton torpedo launcher could be slung below the ventral fuselage for extra firepower. Unlike many of the fighters in use during the Clone Wars, it was equipped with a fully-functional internal hyperdrive.

HistoryEdit

As the Clone Wars intensified, the Confederacy of Independent Systems' fleet began a series of successful surprise attacks against Republic convoys at key hyperspace exit points using intelligence secretly supplied by Palpatine as Darth Sidious. To prevent these attacks, Hoersch-Kessel Drive developed the Tavya-class to scout locations and scan for potential threats to important diplomatic vessels or military convoys.
