Temple Precinct

The Temple Precinct was the area of Coruscant where the Jedi Temple was located. The Processional Way, built on the Precinct roof, lead to the formal entrance into the Temple itself. Larger ships could dock on landing platforms or in one of the towers that line the perimeter. The precinct was a few kilometers north of the Senate District. During the time after the Yuuzhan Vong War, Fellowship Plaza was built in front of the Temple.

[edit] History

The Temple Precinct was a piece of land granted to the Jedi after the Great Hyperspace War as a means of rewarding them for the defense of Coruscant. It was there that they built their Jedi Temple.

Several towers once surrounded the Temple to allow large Jedi ships to dock.

Before the final structure was complete, the precinct was housed at the Temple. After the final layer was placed on the Temple, the precinct was built around and under the Processional Way. The empty space in the buildings were later used as areas set aside as a sparring area for Jedi Initiates needing training for the Clone Wars.

During the raid on the Jedi Temple, the precinct was destroyed when Star Destroyers launched all their firepower towards the area. Clone troopers had, by then, breached the Jedi Temple and begun slaughtering its occupants. When Darth Vader's secret apprentice traveled to the Temple, the area around the Temple had been completely cleared away, while some debris blocked the way to the main staircase.

During the time of the Second Galactic Civil War, the Galactic Alliance had paid to restore the Precinct to its original form, including the same statues and potted plants around the new Jedi Temple. To avoid another incident like that of the raid on the Jedi Temple, the Reconstruction Authority designed evacuation corridors and instructions in case of fire or invaders. Accessed through maintenance corridors or disguised wall pieces, heavy metal doors blocked the way to the hatch. Once through the door, one would emerge into a short permacrete hall that led to an identical door. Through this door was a telescoping platform that was suspended in a small space between the exterior wall of the city block. The platform could extend out beyond the Precinct's outer wall into a traffic lane for immediate rescue.

In 43 ABY, Jysella Horn, who was overcome with Force Psychosis, darted across the Precinct, evading the Knights chasing her. As she left the Precinct, she was detained and arrested by Galactic Alliance Security agents, much to the disdain of the Jedi. In a lower level hangar, Jedi Avinoam Arelis and Jaden Korr assisted Leia Organa Solo in moving the four Jedi who had contracted the Psychosis and were being held in the Jedi Temple Detention Center.

[edit] Layout

[edit] Temple Court

Surrounding the Temple, the Court was the top level of the Precinct. Dotted by larger-than-life depictions of some of the greatest Jedi Knights, the Court sported several areas of plotted plants, benches, and pottery. On the southern side of the Court was located a subsurface airspeeder garage entrance that was artfully hidden behind a wall, fronted by rutolu bushes.

[edit] Underground complex

Underneath the Court lay the substructure of the area. Unlike most city blocks on Coruscant, the Precinct was supported by huge pylons that descended down into the crust of the planet. However, for the first several kilometers, durasteel block, containing hangars, storage facilities, garages and other such areas all serviced the needs of the Temple and its inhabitants.
