- "As I sat watching the howlrunners, the walls of the safari dome seemed to melt away. For a brief moment, I was part of the pack, hunting and howling with these magnificent predators. I have spent the rest of my life trying to recapture that feeling, from the cockpit of a starfighter."
- ―Jo Ewsli, The Anthropology of Engineering
The Anthropology of Engineering was a work authored by the Incom Corporation engineer Jo Ewsli.[1] At some point by 0 ABY,[2] Ewsli had designed the I-7 Howlrunner starfighter, which was named after the omnivorous howlrunner creature of[1] the Wild Space[3] planet[4] Kamar. In The Anthropology of Engineering, the engineer,[1] who at one point had visited Kamar,[4] narrated how[1] he[4] had observed a pack of hunting howlrunners from inside a safari dome. In that passage, Ewsli also noted that he had experienced a moment where he felt like a part of the pack, and that he had subsequently strived for his entire life to design a starfighter that would help its pilot recreate the feeling.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The Anthropology of Engineering was mentioned in the 2003 reference book The New Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels by W. Haden Blackman.[1]
