Alderaan Graveyard AORCR

The Graveyard of Alderaan

"I just hope there are no surprises waiting for us like the last time I was here."
―Han Solo[1]

The Graveyard was the leftover remnants of the planet of Alderaan after its destruction by the first Death Star.

History[]

"We've come out of hyperspace into a meteor shower. Some kind of asteroid collision. It's not on any of the charts. [...] Our position's correct, except no Alderaan."
―Han Solo, discovering Alderaan's destruction[2]

When arriving at the previous location of the planet, the Millennium Falcon, with Han Solo and Chewbacca piloting, exited hyperspace in the thick of the newly created asteroid belt.

Many Alderaanian Exiles performed a private ceremony called the Returning, wherein they would shoot capsules filled with gifts for their friends and family. Some Alderaanians, who called themselves the Guardians, took to patrolling the Graveyard to prevent pirates from stealing the capsules. These Alderaanians were held in rather high regard among the exiles.

Battle for the Another Chance in the Graveyard

In the months after the destruction of Alderaan, Imperial agents often lay in wait for ships performing a Returning ritual. They boarded the ships and arrested the passengers and crew. The Rebel Alliance considered quarantining the Graveyard, as those Imperial actions were too risky for the Alliance.[3]

The asteroid field was the site of a brief battle in which Renegade Squadron took a holocron that had survived Alderaan's destruction.

The remains of Alderaan's devastated moon were also scattered within the Graveyard.[4]
