The Needles, or Needles Range, was a section that marked the center of the Jundland Wastes on Tatooine by two large rock formations jutting upwards from the desert. Many Tusken Raider clans of twenty to thirty individuals returned annually to their traditional encampments in the Needles to wait out the dangerous sandstorm season.

According to information accessed by Ki-Adi-Mundi during his search for the wayward Jedi Knight Sharad Hett on Tatooine, no outsider has entered the Needles since the time of the bandit known as Alkhara. Ki-Adi-Mundi and the bounty hunter Aurra Sing both entered the mountains in pursuit of Hett, and found themselves fighting off packs of deadly womp rats.

For a time, a Krayt dragon inhabited one of the mountains and laid a clutch of eggs in one of it's caverns. This beast was later slain by Sharad Hett's son, A'Sharad, during his test to become a full member of their Tusken clan.
