The Reef,^[1] also known as The Reef asteroid cloud,^[2] was a natural belt of asteroids and dust that resulted of the collision of the two outmost planets in the Lamaro system. The natives of the system gave the belt its name.^[1]

The Reef was a problem for astrogators. Pilots had to choose between leaving hyperspace outside the Lamaro system and then piloting manually to a planet at sublight speed, or alternatively they had to use very precise coordenates.^[1] Ships crossing The Reef at hyperspeed were known to suffer from hyperspace anomalies that destroyed components of the hyperdrive. Pilots suffering this fate had no option but landing in Bartyn's Landing, the only starport of the system where replacements could be found.^[2]
