Written by Gordon Kent and Peter Sauder from a story by Ben Burtt, and directed by Ken Stephenson, the episode originally aired on ABC on November 16, 1985.
Plot summary
Mungo Baobab, C-3PO and R2-D2 make their way for the planet Roon, but Governor Koong's fighters chase after them. They crash land on Roon, where Nilz Yomm and his daughter, Auren, investigate the crash.
Koong explains to Admiral Screed that they must compete in the Roon Colonial Games in order to secure the Roonstones. Gaff assures Koong that Mungo was destroyed, but Screed remains less than impressed.
As they escape the crashed ship, Threepio is attacked by a Mudman. Auren arrives and destroys the Mudmen using Artoo's water pump. Nilz offers to take Mungo and the droids to the Roon Games. Gaff, observing the crash site, realizes that Mungo survived, but decides to kill Mungo himself rather than informing Governor Koong.
Gaff wakes the Shamunaar, a gigantic, hibernating creature, to attack Mungo and the others. Threepio and Artoo attract the Shamunaar's attention so Mungo can rescue Auren; they then rescue the droids and escape, leaving the Shamunaar to go back into hibernation.
Impressed with Mungo's riding skills, Auren suggests that he compete in the Roon Games against Koong's team. At the games, Koong discovers that Mungo is still alive and orders Gaff to destroy him.
Artoo has adopted a pet Mudman; he gets into a fight with Bun-Dingo, who steals it. Artoo catches Bun-Dingo sabotaging BIX and Gee Long, two members of Auren's racing team. He is too late to warn Mungo, who suffers an attack from Gaff. Thankfully, Mungo recovers in time for the games, and he and Threepio serve as replacements on Auren's team.
While Bun-Dingo is distracted, Artoo swipes back the pet Mudman.
Threepio starts the race. Part of the game is knocking the other riders off their mounts and into a pit, where an operator uses an artificial gravity generator to ensure a safe landing. Gaff knocks the artificial gravity operator out and takes over, turning the gravity up to ensure a fatal landing.
Mungo takes his lap. He almost gets knocked off by another rider, but manages to knock the competition out instead, leaving only Auren and Bun-Dingo to complete the final lap. Bun-Dingo gets knocked out; Gaff tries to sabotage Auren by shining a bright light in her eyes, but Artoo drops the pet Mudman over Gaff's head.
Screed threatens an unhappy Koong for not delivering the Roonstones. Meanwhile, Auren promises Mungo that she'll help him find his own Roonstones.
