"It seems I misjudged you, Zann. Stealing that Tibanna gas from Vader must have been very difficult."
Prince Xizor[1]

The Ground Battle on Bespin occurred when Prince Xizor contracted fellow crime lord Tyber Zann to steal tibanna gas on Bespin. Sensing a trap, Zann formulated a plan to get rid of Xizor while keeping the tibanna gas for himself by planting evidence in the computer systems pointing to Black Sun.

Prelude[]

"Of course, but Xizor's made the mistake of setting his trap on the planet Bespin. That world is under the personal control of Darth Vader."
Tyber Zann[1]

Not long after the Imperial occupation of Bespin began, the Zann Consortium took on a job from Black Sun to steal tibanna gas from Cloud City in return for the latter party arranging a meeting with Emperor Palpatine, or one of his envoys. Believing it to be a trap, crime lord Tyber Zann planned to leave evidence that would point the Imperial forces' Supreme Commander,[5] Darth Vader, into the Underlord Xizor's direction. Thus, Zann hired the assassin droid IG-88 prior to the raid in order to hack Imperial computers of Bespin central server cluster.[1]

The battle[]

The theft[]

"We don't have much time. I'll plant the evidence against Xizor. Urai, see to the Tibanna Gas. IG-88, slice into the Imperial computer banks and get me security access for all of the planets on my hit list."
―Tyber Zann[1]

When Tyber Zann, his bodyguard Urai Fen and IG-88 landed on a Bespin platform, the trio were greeted by two stormtroopers. Urai sneaked up behind a stormtrooper and killed him, and Tyber shot the other. The Zann Consortium's troops, soon arrived and were given a task.[1]

Zann's soldiers killed the stormtrooper guards and destroyed the patrolling AT-ST's as Urai led five collector droids to collect the gas. Meanwhile, Tyber Zann planted evidence at four security outposts would incriminate Xizor, as IG-88A hacked into the Imperial database and gained the information on Tyber's so-called hit list.[1]

Darth Vader's intervention[]

"Sir, a group of smugglers have infiltrated our Tibanna gas refinery."
"You have, of course, captured and detained them?"
"My Lord, we nearly had them, but they seem to have…"
"Not the performance I expect from an Imperial Field Commander. I will seek them out myself.
"
―An Imperial Field Commander and Darth Vader[1]

Shortly after the successful completion of the mission the forces were leaving when Lord Vader himself landed on the Bespin platform, with several Dark Side Adepts standing by. The cyborg then killed the Field Commander for not preventing the theft of the tibanna gas. Knowing his forces were no match for Vader, and that he needed them to find the evidence that framed Xizor, Zann and his forces quickly retreated to the landing zone for pickup.[1]

Aftermath[]

"They escaped with a large supply of Tibanna gas, enough to supply a sizable fleet."
"Have they been identified?"
"We've found evidence that suggests the Black Sun criminal organization was responsible. We also have records that indicate some of the local militia took bribes to allow them to land."
"Execute the local militia and any associates. Xizor will pay for this transgression.
"
―A stormtrooper and Darth Vader[1]

From the evidence planted on the platform the Dark Lord of the Sith was convinced that it was the Black Sun's Underlord who had orchestrated the crime. Tyber Zann made a large amount of credits from selling part of the tibanna gas on the black market, and he kept part of the gas to power his own ships.[1]

Eventually Grand Admiral Thrawn contacted Tyber sometime after the battle revealing that while the evidence he planted had convinced Lord Vader of Prince Xizor's guilt, he noticed the unique signature on it. Rather than telling his superior, the Chiss commander allowed the Falleen gangster to be killed.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

It is possible to kill Darth Vader and his Adepts after he lands by simply swarming the area in front of the landing zone with units and targeting them.

Early in the mission, a reference to a scene in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope is made when a stormtrooper asks for Zann's identification, to which Zann responds that the stormtrooper "doesn't need to see" his identification. The stormtrooper then says "this one thinks he's a Jedi".

The player may also bring the heroes Bossk and Silri to the mission, though they are not required. This is the only story mission in the campaign where all five Consortium heroes may be used.
