- "Thire. Rush not into fights. Long is the war. Only by surviving it, will you prevail."
- ―Yoda, to Thire
"Thire" was a clone trooper who served as a lieutenant in the Coruscant Guard of the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. He accompanied the Jedi Grand Master Yoda on a mission to meet with King Katuunko, during which time he learned from Yoda the importance of living to fight another day.
Thire was a clone shock trooper who served as a lieutenant in the Grand Army of the Republic of the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars. Prior to the pan-galactic conflict, Thire was created on the planet of Kamino as part of a clone army grown in secret to serve the Republic.
Early on in the Clone Wars, after a Republic diplomatic mission to Toydaria to secure much needed aid for Ryloth, the Toydarian King Katuunko reconsidered his planet's neutrality, and decided to call for a meeting with Jedi Master Yoda on the moon Rugosa to discuss possible negotiations for Toydaria to join the Republic in the war.
Lieutenant Thire and his fellow troopers, Jek and Rys, escorted Master Yoda to the moon, but their ship was ambushed in orbit by several Separatist warships. Master Yoda ordered their ship to retreat while he and the clones would reach the surface in an escape pod. Katuunko contacted Master Yoda, who informed Katuunko that despite setbacks, he would arrive to meet him. Count Dooku's assassin, Asajj Ventress, revealed herself to King Katuunko, and offered that if her forces won over the Jedi and the clones, then the Toydarians would consider a Separatist alliance. Katuunko responded by stating that he would not demand Master Yoda to prove himself on the battlefield, yet Master Yoda accepted the challenge.
After Separatist forces consisting of B1 battle droids, B2 super battle droids, droidekas, and Armored Assault Tanks arrived, a skirmish erupted with the outnumbered and outgunned Republic troops. During the firefight, Thire was injured by an explosion, but was rescued by Yoda, and they retreated into a cave. It was here where Yoda shared wisdom with the clones, stating that Thire, Jek, and Rys, although clones, were each unique as the force resides in all living things, and told Thire that he should not rush into fights, for the war would be a long one. Their break was interrupted by a column of tanks however, and Yoda decided to engage. After the clones responded by asking if he were to go alone, Master Yoda replied by pointing out that he is not alone, as he knows that they will help him. After Yoda destroyed all of the tanks and dispatched the droids, a dozen droidekas were advancing towards Yoda. Knowing that Master Yoda would be overwhelmed, Thire used their last rocket to destroy a nearby overhanging cliff, creating a rock avalanche that destroyed the remaining droid forces.
After the battle, Thire, Yoda, and the others arrived to meet King Katuunko, just as Ventress was about to kill him after he stated that Toydaria would side with the Republic. Yoda stopped Ventress with the force and she retreated. Soon after, Republic reinforcements arrived and were all evacuated.
Serving the EmpireEdit
Shortly after Order 66 and the creation of the Galactic Empire in 19 BBY, the Emperor Palpatine dueled Master Yoda in the Senate chamber, who later escaped after he had been defeated by the Emperor. Thire and a squad of shock troopers were ordered to search for his body, and after informing Emperor Palpatine and Mas Amedda that there was no sign of Yoda's body, he was ordered to double his search as he was not dead.
