"Assessor, this is Dorion Discus. Ah, negative on customs inspection. We have a priority cargo for the Imperial base on Markon IV. Our priority authorization is filed on Thorgeld."
―Roark Garnet attempts to bluff the Imperial Customs Frigate Assessor[src]

Thorgeld I, also styled simply as Thorgeld, was a planet located within the Thorgeld system of the Core Worlds. One of the world's major settlements was the underground city of Fabrin, where Kvarn Mandel, head of Fabritech, maintained his family mansion. During the Galactic Civil War, Thorgeld I was patrolled by the Imperial Customs Frigate Assessor.

DescriptionEdit

Thorgeld I,[3] sometimes simply known just as Thorgeld, was a planet[4] in the Thorgeld system of the Core Worlds.[1] Located in the arrowhead of the region known as the Northern Dependencies,[5] Thorgeld I hosted a population of between 10 and 100 billion inhabitants by 25 ABY.[2] At least one major city, Fabrin, was located on the planet.[3]

HistoryEdit

The region of the galaxy containing Thorgeld I was explored between 27,500 BBY and 25,000 BBY.[6] By the time of the Galactic Civil War, Thorgeld I was controlled by the Galactic Empire, with Imperial Customs vessels, such as the Imperial Customs Frigate Assessor, patrolling the system. At some point during his career, the smuggler Roark Garnet made a trip to Thorgeld I with his freighter, the Dorion Discus. While leaving orbit, the Assessor attempted to conduct an inspection of the craft. One of the Dorion Discus's passengers, the bounty hunter Tantos Dree, made it clear to Garnet that Imperial forces could not find him aboard the vessel, and if they did, he would exact retribution on Garnet. With both his daughter, Jill Farseeker, and her grandfather, Jackson, aboard, Garnet first attempted to bluff the Assessor, claiming they were carrying a priority cargo for the Imperial base on Markon IV. When that failed, Garnet flew the Dorion Discus in an evasive pattern with Dree manning the freighter's weapons before jumping to hyperspace after taking a few hits from the frigate.[4]

LocationsEdit

Fabrin was a major city on Thorgeld I and was situated underground. It was the location of the Mandel family mansion, where Kvarn Mandel, head of Fabritech, lived with his wife, Emlyn, and their four children, including Samire and Simmin.[3]

Behind the scenesEdit

The planet Thorgeld was first mentioned in 1987's First Edition of Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game published by West End Games. In 1993, Galaxy Guide 9: Fragments from the Rim made reference to "Thorgeld I". This article assumes that Thorgeld I, as the more recent name, is the formal designation of the planet. In 2009, The Essential Atlas, written by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart, established that Thorgeld was located in the Core Worlds of the galaxy.
