The thrall herder was a Yuuzhan Vong ground vehicle used for controlling Chazrach slave soldiers. It resembled a giant beetle-like creature with thousands of little feet. The vehicle was equipped with dovin basals which intercepted missiles and laser blasts. The void created by the dovin basals could also suck small lifeforms like insects, birds and bats into it. Once a thrall herder was destroyed, the Chazrach associated with it scattered.
The New Republic first encountered thrall herders during the invasion of Dantooine.
