1977-Comic Books Marvel Comics begins its monthly run that is the start of what will come to be known as the Expanded Universe. Roy Thomas is the first writer, after which Archie Goodwin takes over the run that will last 110 issues in the United States (with a weekly series in the UK that will end up publishing a greater number of stories.)
1978-Magazine Pizzazz publishes 16 stories that run concurrently with the Marvel series. As with that series, Roy Thomas begins after which Archie Goodwin takes over.
1978-Novel Splinter of the Mind's Eye by Alan Dean Foster is the first "Expanded Universe" novel ever published.
