Following is a list of titles used among the various societies in the galaxy.

• Tan was a title-rank granted by Palpatine, both during the Clone Wars and later the Galactic Civil War, to Starfighter Command officers who had done him a special service. Only two individuals are known to have been granted this title, significantly, both of them Force-sensitive: Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars, and Maarek Stele during the Galactic Civil War.
• True Gunner was the highest order of gunnery awarded within the ranks of the Alliance to Restore the Republic.

• Governor was a title which predated the rise of the Empire. Sio Bibble was governor and chief administrator of Naboo, handling most of the planetary governments daily operational functions.
• Settlement Officer was a title employed by the Neimoidians for an extortionary diplomatic attaché. The position was held by Rune Haako during the Blockade of Naboo, and involved extensive legal knowledge as well as aggressive negotiation skills.

• Queen was a title for a planetary head of state which was employed by a small number of worlds. One well-known example is Amidala of Naboo, whose primary function was to inspire confidence, commitment, and cooperation among the Naboo Advisory Council. Her reserve powers came to the fore during the Trade Federation's blockade of that planet.
• Commanding Viceroy was the title for the individual (usually a Neimoidian) in charge of the Trade Federation.
• Captain was used by the commanders of many kinds of ships.
• Illustrious Chieftain of Junkyards was the title given to the leader of the Squib species.
• Prince-Admiral was the title taken by Delak Krennel when he seized control of the Ciutric Hegemony, making him the supreme ruler of the Hegemony until the New Republic ousted him.

[edit] Jedi/Sith titles

• Grand Master was the title held by the head of the Jedi Order, used during the time of both the Old Jedi Order and the New Jedi Order. The title was given to the person considered to be "the first among equals" on the Jedi Council. The title was last held by Yoda before the fall of the Old Republic, and first taken up by Luke Skywalker following the establishment of the new Jedi Order.
• Master was the title employed by the most respected Jedi, such as Qui-Gon Jinn and Mace Windu. They were required to use their deep perception in guiding other Jedi Knights, whether in the field or in formal situations such as meetings of the Jedi High Council. Under the Republic, Jedi led important military missions and conducted difficult diplomatic negotiations.
• Darth was the title used by Dark Lords of the Sith such as Darth Maul, Darth Sidious and Darth Vader. The position was highly individualized, but centered on the individual's desire to destroy the Jedi.
• Sword of the Jedi was a unique title bestowed upon Jaina Solo during the Yuuzhan Vong War. Luke Skywalker gave the title to Jaina during her knighting, saying that she would be "...a burning brand to your enemies, a brilliant fire to your friends." With no one able to truly explain the title, least of all Skywalker, Jaina often struggled with her understanding of the Sword's duties. It was not until she took up the burden of killing her own fallen brother in 41 ABY that Jaina felt she had truly become the Sword.

[edit] Legislative titles

• Senator was the title used by the representative of planets and corporations in the Galactic Senate. Examples include Lott Dod, Mon Mothma, and Bail Organa. A thorough knowledge of Coruscant bureaucracy and a deft mind for procedural tricks were necessary for success, especially in the waning years of the Republic.
