Tobas Grell was a male Sarkhai Senator of the Galactic Republic and the father of Nadia Grell. When Sarkhai joined the Republic, the Rift Alliance, a coalition of disillusioned worlds, recruited them to their cause. The Jedi intervened in the situation hoping to mend the gap, but the Sith were a step ahead and planned to kill the leaders, of which Tobas was one, to drive a wedge between them.
Tobas and the others were saved by the Barsen'thor and the help of his daughter, Nadia. The Rift took advantage of having a Jedi in order to free Balmorra. After this, Tobas spoke with the Jedi Master and told him of the situation on Attis Station, a secret installation of the Rift's, despite the others wanting to keep it secret. It was here that Tobas had to reveal his daughter's powers in the Force to the Jedi after he saw her 'outburst'.
Tobas continued to aid the Jedi in his quest to consolidate the Rift in staying with the Republic.
Eventually, war broke out and the Republic wasn't ready for it. The Rift Alliance was given the task of mustering an army to push back the Empire. After much research, they went to Belsavis, in order to awake the sleeping army, the Esh-Kha. However, while the Barsen'thor was planetside awaking them, Grell was on the orbital station, where he was kidnapped.
The Barsen'thor and his daughter, Nadia, gave chase, but too late. 'Stark', the Sith who took Grell killed him while torturing him for information about the Rift Alliance's plans. The two killed Stark but were too late to save him, causing great pain for his daughter.
Tobas had left a will with the Jedi Order, at least one subject was concerning the Institute of Xenozoology. The final part of his will concerned his daughter. With him gone, he wanted her to be trained as a Jedi under his friend, the Barsen'thor of the Jedi Order.
With his death, his daughter also inherited his seat as representative of Sarkhai to the galaxy.
