Torpedo platforms were large warships in use before and during the Clone Wars.[1]

Torpedo platforms were armed with proton torpedoes and other projectile weapons.[1]
History
They saw use prior to the advances in planetary-bombardment turbolaser technology achieved with the Eye of Palpatine in around 19 BBY, and were considered precursors to both the Eye of Palpatine and the subsequent Death Stars.[1]
Behind the scenes
The term "torpedo platform" occurs only once in Star Wars canon when Irek Ismaren describes the Eye of Palpatine as "the prototype transition between the torpedo platforms and the original Death Star" (Children of the Jedi, Chapter 21). No source specifically identifies what type of ship or space-station these "torpedo platforms" were, but the term cannot refer to the Torpedo Sphere, which was only developed shortly before 0 BBY.
