A transliterator was a device used to translate various alien languages into Basic. It was attached to the throat and could be programmed with different voices.

The Gamorrean sow, Ugmush, used a transliterator with the voice of the holovid star Amber Jevanche programmed in. The Buzchub, Und'l, also made use of one.
